My bears came!

Calories eaten yesterday: 1303
Fat: 32g (22%)
Carbs: 87g (27%)
Protein: 159g (50%)

Weight this morning: 133 (One week ago: 136.4)
Calories burned in exercise today: 215

My 60 and 70 pound bears arrived today! I'll take a picture of all the bears together and post it, but I haven't earned the 70 and goal bears quite yet, but I will get there! Now I have a complete set. :) I'll probably take the photo when I need a photo for Project 365.

Made it to the gym today. Weight training - upper body - then 20 minutes on the rowing machine and 10 on the recumbent stationary bike.

I'm slowly getting the tree trimmed. The lights and garland are on and last night I put some ornaments up. More still to do. I'll get a photo of the tree at some point. It's a sad, old, cheap tree, but it's served me for over 10 years. :)

Week 37, Day 4

Calories eaten yesterday: 1307
Fat: 30g (21%)
Carbs: 105g (33%)
Protein: 145g (46%)

Weight this morning: 134.6 (One week ago: 138.4)
Calories burned in exercise today: 216

Today was a non-gym day but I had it free so I went anyway. I did the half hour treadmill program from Muscle & Fitness Hers magazine, then walked at 4.0 mph for another half hour. No weight training. I hope to do upper body and core tomorrow.

Got spammed by another crazy diet person on Flickr. She has no profile and no pictures so her sole purpose on Flickr is to spam people and direct people to her MySpace profile. This one was ranting about how great organic is and how she's losing a pound a day. I hate to break the news, but losing a pound a day isn't healthy and you will ruin your metabolism from the loss of muscle mass and putting your body into starvation mode. I blocked her, which deletes all her comments, and then reported her to Flickr.

She also ranted about how unhealthy Starbucks, Atkins, and NutriSystem are and how the chemicals I eat will change my genetics. [rolls eyes] This girl needs to read some actual books instead of crazy Web sites.

Here's a sampling of her "work."
Low-carb, no-carb, fat-free, low-fat, natural, are all false labels. This kind of food will make you sick and fat, guaranteed!

The rest of what she wrote was in the same vein. The fact that she mentions "no carb" proves she has no clue what she is talking about. You can tune out everything else when someone starts spouting "no carb" nonsense.

Guaranteed to make me fat, eh? Funny because I don't look fat. :-D

I really wonder what is lacking in these people's diets that makes them do this sort of thing. I don't see that behavior among low-carbers, I guess from the good nutrition they get. :)

I'm still getting my tree up. I have the lights on it and I put the garland on today. The garland is made of red beads (kind of like these). I haven't had a chance to step back and make any needed adjustments yet. Once that's done I can start on the ornaments.

Book review: Escape

I recently read the book Escape by Carolyn Jessop & Laura Palmer. It's the true story of Carolyn's life in the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS). They are a split off group from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS - the Mormons). While the FLDS still practices polygamy, the LDS church no longer does and disavows that the FLDS are true Mormons.

Carolyn was born and raised in the FLDS church. She talks about her upbringing, her marriage, the eight children she had, and how she finally escaped from the cult with her children. She then traces the hardships she encountered in leaving, keeping custody of her kids, and providing for them as a single mother.

I highly recommend this book. It is a rare inside glimpse inside a cult and how they went from bad to worse. If you are at all interesting in cults, like to learn about other religious groups, or heard about Warren Jeffs in the news, this is the book for you. I had a hard time putting it down.

Week 37, Day 3

Calories eaten yesterday: 1237

Carbs: 77g (25%)
Protein: 127g (42%)

Weight this morning: 136.4 (One week ago: 142.2)
Calories burned in exercise today: 213

Nothing much to report today. I'm almost at my monthly step goal so I did the rowing machine for my cardio today - 25 minutes, then 5 minutes on the Treadclimber to finish up. I could have gone for the full 30. I could only do 20 before and I don't know if it's because I'm getting stronger or if it's because I used a different machine than before.

I may go to the gym and just do some treadmill walking tomorrow. Haven't decided yet.

Had another problem with my latest NutriSystem order. After sending the pancakes I ordered to the wrong address, they then sent the bears I requested to the same wrong address! I called them but after looking into it they don't know why it's happening (!). They set up another profile for my to use if/when I order things again, and said they would continue looking into it.

I'm getting Bill Me Later paid down. I checked my account today and I currently owe about $260 on it. Once I pay that off I owe my Mom $99 for money she lent me for the personal training.

I decided to officially try the Flickr Project 365 challenge. The premise is you take one photo a day, every day, for a year. Here's the start of my photos. I'll add sets for each month as time goes on. I'm currently on Day 8.

Holiday plans & dieting

Calories eaten yesterday: 1211
Fat: 25g (19%)
Carbs: 102g (35%)
Protein: 136g (46%)

Weight this morning: 139.6 (One week ago: 147)
Calories burned in exercise today: 176

Ran into the City today to check my mail, then walked to work from the train station. I stopped at Pac N Save, bought salad, continued to work, dropped everything off, and went back to WalMart to buy Christmas lights (none of the ones I had worked) and bread. An hour of aerobic steps. :)

I'm getting the holidays planned out. Dec. 7 I give blood. This traditionally means a total off plan day. Brad and I are both very poor, so restaurants are out. We're going to eat fast food for dinner because that's all we can afford. I hope to minimize that binge to one meal, but I will allow myself a Starbucks treat if I get my butt out of the house early enough to make the 30 minute walk to the closest one (and get back over the bridge to the bus stop.

Christmas Eve - don't know yet. Have to work late, so hopefully I will be on plan. Christmas Day I have to work. My co-worker and I will have a low-carb, low-fat dinner with one exception - I'll allow myself one big serving of egg nog. This is the only time in the whole year I have that.

New Year's Eve will be low-carb, but not low-fat. New Year's is the one time a year I allow myself brie cheese. I have to work late, but I should be able to get off by 9 p.m. so I can get home in time to get in my jammies and celebrate. I hope to be on plan until 9 pm. New Year's Day I'll be back on plan and back at the gym.

Then my b-day is January 11 (I'll be 37 - eek!)and that is truly a "eat whatever I want all day" sort of thing, and I refuse to feel guilty about that. :)

Other than those days I will be on plan and more serious than ever to help minimize the damage.

Obeying God

This Saturday really got me thinking about God and my own spiritual life.

First there was church. It was unusual. We had over 30 people (big for us), due mostly to people visiting family for the Thanksgiving holiday. Eric was there so we did two sets of praise songs instead of one set of hymns and one set of praise songs using Brent and Carla's worship CD. Live music! Oh yeah! There was something about Eric being there and the energy of more people than usual. I was on the end of a row closest to a set of windows. I couldn't help but stand up, move slightly off to the side, and truly worship, arms raised in the air. It was a wonderful feeling, one I haven't felt in a long time. I really felt praise and had to express it. I couldn't keep it in.

The sermon was about obeying God. Pastor Steve challenged us to find just one area of our lives where we struggled with obedience, and obey God in that. There's so many areas I hardly know where to start. I've slacked off not just on prayer (which is normal for me), but even on my daily devotional readings.

I also need to get more serious about obeying Him by not buying stuff on Sabbath. That means not going to Starbucks for coffee or breakfast sandwiches, and not eating out on Friday nights after sunset (like the days I give blood I go out to eat and binge).

These are just a few of the areas where I have trouble obeying Him, and yet I know I should obey.

Saturday night Brad and I Pay Per Viewed Evan Almighty. I was not disappointed. It was a good movie and was also about obeying God no matter what the consequences, or whether or not it makes sense. At the end of the movie you can see that God did know what he was doing and it all does make sense.

I liked Bruce Almighty which is why I wanted to see this movie. I highly recommend either. They are not anti-Christian in the least.

One thing I didn't realize until I recently read the synopsis on Bruce Almighty it that Bruce loses out to Evan Baxter for the anchor position at Channel 7 news. Yes, the same Evan! He has just a small part in Bruce Almighty where Bruce torments him with his new powers. Evan Almighty begins with Evan leaving his anchor position for the business world.

At any rate, Saturday's theme both at church and at home watching the movie was about obeying God. It's scary. God is calling me to a deeper relationship through obedience. I guess after more than 10 years I find it easier to trust Him, so the next step is obeying.

I don't even know where I'm going with this post, or if I'm going anywhere. I just needed to put down my thoughts on this and what God is trying to say to me.

What is God saying to you right now, trying to teach you? What does He want you to do for Him?

Crap. I just keep gaining. 6.2 pounds?!? WTF?!? Even binging before the race never made me gain that much. I guess with vacation and the holidays plus the planned off-plan days there's no hope of losing weight. I'll be darn lucky not to gain a ton. There's really no way to stay on plan day in and day out until after my birthday in January. My body hates me.

Thursday I made a total piggy of myself. Oink oink. I ate from the time I got up to the time I went to bed. I have got to do better and keep my binges to one or two meals instead of morning to night.

I ate mostly healthy food - even dessert was sugar-free, fat-free homemade chocolate cheesecake. But I ate four slices - half of the cheesecake. But because it was sugar-free and fat-free I probably didn't do to much damage. I used sugar-free Jello pudding as the flavoring, Splenda to sweeten, and 16 oz. of fat free cream cheese. Egg whites as a binder instead of whole eggs.

Bread was low-carb and I only had a couple slices. No cranberry sauce or potatoes. We had caulifower potatoes. We also snacked on sardines, and apple slices with peanut butter - no cheese and crackers here.

I pretty well gorged all day that day, but it was mostly healthy food I pigged out on, and I did make it to the gym that morning.

Friday Brad and I went walking in and around the San Leandro marina. We finally found a trail that looks quite long and is paved so easily doable after dark. This Friday there was a full moon to light our way, but we won't have that every week of course.

Saturday was church and in the evening we saw Evan Almighty on Pay Per View. I really liked the movie. I'd give it three stars out of four. It contains a lot of nuggets of truth and the story line flowed well and made sense. Both church and the movie were quite thought-provoking and it will take another blog post to go into this.

After church we did some mall walking to get in some extra steps.

Today I went to the gym. Did one hour of upper body weights, 30 minutes of cardio on the crossramp elliptical, and then I walked to work from BART because it's faster to walk on Sundays than wait for the bus. FitDay says I burned 356 calories.

I bought a new pair of weight lifting gloves. I bought the same kind as I did before. As I worked out today I noticed that one glove had a hole in it. They are wearing out. I tried on one of the gloves in the new pair to make sure it was the right size and it was so much tighter. I didn't realize how stretched out mine were.

Thanksgiving

Protein: 141g (49%)

Weight this morning: 136.4 (One week ago: N/A)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hope your day is a blessed one!

Had a larger breakfast than usual - about the same amount of protein as usual, but more carbs. I went to the gym. Did one hour of weight training (mostly upper body), then 30 minutes of cardio. Due to my larger breakfast I had more energy than usual; I hardly needed my energy drink. Then I was going to do the treadmill program, but at the first running interval I went for 12 minutes instead of the 2 minutes I normally do. At 5.0 mph that's one mile. I went back into the program after that and at the second interval I went for 3 minutes at 5.5 mph. That came to 31 minutes total.

The bus wasn't running often due to the holiday, so I walked the last 30 minutes to work, stopping at Starbucks for a double tall nonfat sugar-free Gingerbread latte and a chocolate biscotti.

One word on the medication. I had earlier said that it had gone up in price and they were now charging me almost $100 for my meds. Maybe that was in Canadian money and/or included shipping though, because when the meds came while I was on vacation they only charged me $76. I get free shipping for life because I took the $99 deal they offered - pay the one time fee and never pay shipping again. At any rate, it's only gone up a little - $69 to $76.

Here's a random photo of me taken at work yesterday. Click it for a larger size. Thanksgiving photos to come.

Week 36, Day 4

Calories eaten yesterday: 1375

Carbs: 108g (32%)
Protein: 149g (44%)

Weight this morning: 138.4 (One week ago: 132.6)
Calories burned in exercise today: 161

Took it easy this morning, lounged in bed for a while, then vacuumed the rug. Walked the 1.5 miles to work from the train station, dropped off my stuff, walked back to WalMart for soda, then back to work. Almost 1 hour of walking according to my pedometer.

Prepared the chocolate cheesecake for tomorrow 2 days ago, baked it last night, and brought it into work today with the cauliflower and brussel sprout leftovers. The cheesecake is actually healthy because it's sweetened with Splenda and the fat free cream cheese (the main component) has a good bit of protein.

Brad wanted to bring in cranberry sauce and I told him NO, I don't need the temptation. To make cleanup easier we're using paper plates and plastic utensils except we'll need a real knife for the turkey breast.

The gym doesn't close until 4 pm tomorrow so I am aiming to get in a workout at my regular time around noon.

Saw the Salvation Army out with their kettle for the first time today. When I was growing up my Dad never donated to any charity at any time except for the Salvation Army. He always put something in the kettle when he saw them out. It's a good tradition and one I intend to carry on. :)

We got paid today at work. We get paid every other Thursday, but when Thursday is a holiday we get paid a day early.

Medication Mixup Mayhem & Money

Calories eaten yesterday: 1241
Fat: 37g (27%)
Carbs: 81g (27%)
Protein: 137g (46%)

Weight this morning: 142.2 (One week ago: 133.6)
Calories burned in exercise today: 355

The extra calories burned today was because after my usual workout at the gym I walked to work from the train station to burn a few extra calories. I totally did NOT feel like working out today; I woke up with a bad headache and some break through anxiety. I took three Ibuprofen, one Xanax, and trooped off to the gym anyway. By the time I was finished I felt much better and was glad I worked out. :)

Money is very tight right now. Not only did I buy stuff in Seattle that I don't have the money for, but when my medication I ordered a few weeks ago arrived I got two bottles. Rx Care Canada, who I buy the meds from, said there was a computer mix up. They actually called me while I was in Seattle. I explained I was out of state and they said call back Monday. I did, but I called too late and was told the lady I needed to talk to had left for the day.

I called again this morning and was told the lady was out sick, but someone else helped me. She said I could either send the medication back, or keep it and pay for it. I asked if it was the same price (it came from Australia); she checked and said it was. This would give me a six month supply so I said I'd keep it and they could charge me. Anything to put off seeing my doctor. So that's another $70+ out of my pocket until I can get reimbursed for part of it. It's going to take a while to get back on even ground again. No eating out for Brad or I for a long time. We are both having financial problems.

Something I see I forgot to mention in my Seattle updates. One day while I was gone Brad called me to let me know that my a la carte order arrived - without the bears of course. I called NutriSystem and said that I had bough the rest of the bears I wanted off eBay and if they could just send me the 60 and 70 pound bears I would be happy. The customer service rep said they would send them out. So now I am waiting for them to arrive. I'll get a photo of them all when they come. :)

Week 36, Day 2

Weight this morning: 147 (One week ago: 136)
Calories burned in exercise today: 105

I had way too much to drink yesterday. I had wine before going to Applebees and then three drinks there. I have that "pre-coffee" feeling even though I've had coffee. I'll just deal with it and be back to 100% tomorrow. I slept in today, but will go back to the gym tomorrow.

I wanted to respond to one person who commented. Their comment read, in part:
I don't know why you'd even want to participate, since you have such a different philosophy. You're going into a place that should be safe for them and telling them that they are all wrong.

I'm not telling anyone they are all wrong. I've never said there's anything wrong with NutriSystem. It works for many people and I would never diss it.

Why do I want to participate? I joined NS and bought food. I want to associate with other people who are trying to control their calories and portion sizes and eat low-fat. I have learned a tremendous amount from NS (and the forums) and wouldn't trade that for anything.

Okay, on to my trip. There are too many photos from my trip and dinner yesterday to post thumbnails here, so I'll just point you to where the photo are.

Seattle, Day 5

I was up at 5 a.m. We didn't have to leave until 6:30, but Renato and I were out the door before 6. We got to the airport and I got through security with no problems. I had two hours to kill before my flight. I drank a Starbucks latte, ate an ooey gooey warm cinnamon roll, and read my book.

Brad picked me up and we did some basic shopping so I will have salad to eat this week. I don't have the money, but I do need to eat. Then we came back to my apartment and I unpacked and did the laundry. Then back to Safeway for a few things we had forgotten earlier.

I had asked Brad if he would take me out to dinner at Applebees. I needed a god binge in order to get back on my diet. Thankfully he did. I paid for my own Mudslide, and he bought me a Mochatini, a Caramel Appletini, and dinner (I got the Quesadilla Burger and fries). The Mochatini was great, and this was my first time having the Caramel Appletini. It was also very yummy! He bough cheese sticks for appetizers which made me unable to finish my dinner. I should have gotten the leftovers to go, but oh well.

Back at home he gave me a backrub and then we called it a night since he had to be at work Monday.

Seattle, Day 4

A couple things I forgot to mention yesterday. As most of you probably know, the Space Needle restaurant slowly rotates. What I didn't know was that the windows/walls and center do not rotate. It tweaked my brain for the walls and center and remain stationary while the table/floor moved. It even made me a little nauseous. it doubly tweaked my brain to get used to that and then go upstairs to the Observation Deck, which does not revolve.

The second thing I forgot to mention was at REI. I found and bought a single serve packet of freeze dried ice cream. I haven't had it in ages and it tasted great! :)

Today Renato let me use his laptop to catch up on the blog and step log. Then he asked if I wanted to come for a walk as he walked the dog. After that preparations for Thanksgiving dinner began in earnest. We ate cheese, crackers, and bread and drank wine while Renato cooked.

When all was ready we set the table, took pictures, and ate. Afterwards we had coffee, April did most of the clean up, and I helped.

Then I packed and got ready. I leave tomorrow morning! 3 1/2 days down, 1/2 day to go!

Seattle, Day 3

Dad and I went to the Space Needle for lunch today. This is a big deal because it is very expensive. With the tip, lunch for the two of us came to almost $100. But is does have a great view.

Then we went up to the Observation Deck, then down to the gift shop. I prevailed upon Dad to buy me a t-shirt, and I bought a keyring picture of Dad and I at lunch (they came around and took our picture), an Italian link charm for my watch, and a water bottle that will be perfect my my hikes with Brad - not too big and not too small. Meanwhile Millie stayed at home and slept, and April went to the movies with the baby.

After lunch, April picked up Dad and I and we went to REI to get April and Renato the backpack baby carrier that went on sale today, then finally home.

April and I took the dog Rex for a walk and went to Safeway to buy some veggies. She cooked salmon and spinach for dinner; Millie and I had chicken. Renato hadn't come home yet so we set aside some chicken for him, too, since he doesn't like salmon either. April and I had Port wine after dinner. Yum! I have a new love.

I wanted to watch TV, but when April turned to some boring show about fashion I bowed out to go upstairs and read. Reading is more interesting.

Tomorrow we have our "Thanksgiving."

2 1/2 days down, 1 1/2 to go.

Seattle, Day 2

I feel like there are two children in the house - Marina and Dad. Dad uses his disability (he's been in a wheelchair since before I was born) as his reason for not doing anything. April and I are constantly caring for one or the other.

Today we went to REI, then the pet store. Then April, Dad, and Marina went to Costco. She said I wasn't needed so I stayed home and eventually took a walk down to Safeway, where I bought some wine and sugar free candy to help me survive my stay here. Millie felt sick and slept most of the afternoon. I timed my walk to Safeway and found it's 17-18 minutes each way - my only exercise today.

Dinner is very late here and afterwards I shaved my legs, washed my hair, and tried to get ready for bed. But April wanted me to help with the baby while she did dishes. At one point I was holding the baby and scratching Dad's back at the same time - taking care of two children. Add to this that April told me she thinks of ME as another child simply because I can't drive myself anywhere! Is it any wonder I don't want to come visit here? Why would I want to see someone who looks down on me? 1 1/2 days down, 2 1/2 to go.

Seattle, Day 1

I made it to Seattle safe and sound. It's good I cooked the cauliflower potatoes and chocolate cheesecake before I left because April and Renato's oven is broken. We will probably have our Thanksgiving feast on Saturday because they need their oven repaired to cook the turkey.

I got some money from Dad and walked down to Safeway. I was stressed and needed chocolate so I stopped and Baskin Robbins and bought a scoop of no sugar added chocolate chocolate chip ice cream. It tasted old, like something that was rarely ordered. I ate it anyway. I needed the chocolate.

Then I went to Safeway and bought some items. Then to Subway for a turkey breast sandwich on wheat. I got it with no cheese or mayo. I had bought fat free cheese at Safeway so I put a slice of that on. I was so hungry I wolfed it down, then walked back to April's. I wish I would have bought some wine. Chocolate and wine are the two best stress relievers. :)

I am in Marina's room this year. I feel like I am at Conference: I have no TV, no radio, no alarm clock (thank goodness I brought my travel one), and no nightstand in my room. I have no closet and no dresser. They are filled with Marina's stuff. I am supposedly on "vacation," but living out of my suitcases on the floor. :-p

On top of all this, my flat tummy in gone after less than 24 hours and I am fat and bloated. I wish i brought my size 10 jeans.

Who knows what tomorrow will bring? All I know is I am not looking forward to it.

The Kimkins Controversy, take 2

Well, here I go with another Kimkins post. I've been keeping up on the happenings. The Daily Show aired a segment about Kimkins in their "Diet Scams" series and Jimmy Moore was kind enough to post the entire segment on YouTube. It's poor quality, but it's the only place to watch it. It's worth it.

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

The doctor on the show is a moron and doesn't know the difference between ketosis (burning of body fat) and ketoacidosis (a deadly condition when the blood sugar is too high) and talked about how unhealthy ketosis is. That's a slam again all low-carb diets if ever there was one. Will the madness never end???

Also, Kimmer has "come out" and admitted a lot of stuff. Here's her announcement, with commentary from "Kimkins Dangers": Heidi Diaz Comes Clean (Well, sorta) Don't miss it! It's a great read.

Well, tomorrow's the big day! I am outta here and you won't hear from me until next Monday.

Two packages came today - a 50 pound NutriSystem bear I ordered off eBay, and some of the old chicken breast patties someone on NutriSystem wanted to get rid of. I'm more than happy to take them. God knows money is tight right now.

Went to the gym and did lower body and core work. I was really tired (don't know why) so I had to push myself through my 1 hour of weight training. I just did 30 minutes on the treadmill at 4.0 mph for my cardio.

Starbucks latteTomorrow Brad is taking me to the airport. He said he would bring me one of Starbucks low-fat breakfast sandwiches when he comes to pick me up. Oh my gosh those things are so good! Then we will stop at Starbucks on the way to the airport so I can get a tall nonfat sugar-free Gingerbread latte. Yes, they have sugar-free Gingerbread syrup for the holidays! Yum yum!

Remember the NS pancakes I ordered a la carte so I could get my bears? Well, the pancakes still aren't here. They will probably arrive tomorrow and then I will find out if there are bears in the package. I doubt they remembered so I'll have Brad open the box, then call and yell at them from Seattle.

I wish I could link to the NS board (anyone can join, but they are members only) and show you the LOVE from so many people on NS about how "silly" I am for changing my NS start weight to my true start weight of 206 so I can get more bears. I want bears for ALL the weight I've lost, whether on NS or not. Well, let me just tell you that about three of them decided to pick fights and one of them has had her brain so adled by NS that she continued to argue and call names. I really wish I could link you all to the thread and let you decide who's the aggressor. Let me see. So far I've been called "silly" and "dishonest." I wonder what will await me when I get back from Seattle.

Let this be a warning to you. We need FAT in our diets to act normal and the people on NS have really shown how badly a lack of fat can effect a person. Either that, or they are just naturally mean. I've noticed since being on Alli and getting less fat than before that I have been more on edge and combative myself. Brad finally picked up on it this past weekend.

Actually, I'll just post some of them here:

Well I don't think that you telling lies on here about NS stiffing you bears is nice. NS isn't stiffing you anything. I'm not being mean, I'm just speaking the truth.

Nope, I didn't lie. I was trying to be nice. And trust me, using the word silly is not the word I would normally use for this kind of behaviour....it's more like pathetic, childish, immature, etc, etc. No one here said you didn't lose 70 lbs. But we did say you DIDN'T lose 70 lbs on NS. Do you really need a bear to make you feel good about your weight loss? Shouldn't your weight loss be reward enough? And the reason why it matters is because you're asking NS for bears for weight losses that just didn't happen on NS. It just seems so pathetic that you'd even want the bears for weight that you lost on another diet. hahahahaha....too bad you have me on ignore...I would love to do the same to you, but then I wouldn't be able to get a good laugh from your posts

My last response before leaving for vacation:
I'm not even "doing" NS right now. Maybe I shouldn't get any bears. The only difference between "before NS" and "now" is that I've spent a bunch of money on NS food and belong to this bulletin board. That's it. I didn't follow NS by the book and I've crafted my own plan that I've dubbed "Nutrikins." Since I didn't lose any weight on NS as written, then I shouldn't get any bears? I took the best from Atkins and the best from NS and put them together. I have since the beginning.

So what say you? Weigh-in with a comment below. I'll read them when I get back.

I'll try not to gain too much while I'm gone. See you all November 19! I'll be back with a full report and photos.

No exercise today except for the 1.5 mile walk from BART to work. Wrapped presents to take to April and Renato for Christmas. It'll save me having to ship it later.

I pulled my suitcase out of my closet last night and started organizing things in my head and packing. I leave Wednesday morning for Seattle and fly back at some God forsaken time Sunday morning.

I'm taking some food with me, including a sugar-free, fat-free chocolate cheesecake I've already baked and that I hope will survive the trip. Also taking some sugar-free candy for myself and a loaf of low-carb bread to keep me away from any rolls they serve. The cauliflower potatoes are already made and packaged in Tupperware.

I'm bringing some NS egg breakfasts just in case, but my sister will probably let me make egg beaters for myself when everyone else in eating waffles, pancakes, and other carby things. It's just better to be safe than sorry.

Brad is driving me to the airport and also picking me up. He said he would stay at my apartment while I am gone. I think he wants to spend more time with the cats. ;) I'm fine with it as long as he doesn't eat my food.

Crap. Back above my goal again. My body truly wants to be fat. My tummy is so distended. I carry all my weight in my belly. And this is my last weigh-in for two weeks due to my upcoming trip to Seattle. I was hoping to lose more weight before I went, but I guess that was not to be. It means even more work when I get back.

Friday Brad and I did a night hike. It was such a long drive out there and Brad takes the winding back way along the hill's ridge. I have no pictures of our hike because it now gets dark at 5 and that's about when we finally set off. We didn't ever find the trail I wanted to do, but we found the Selby Trail, a fairly flat trail that runs along the ridge and is pretty straight. 55 minutes out and 55 minutes back. We only covered about 4 1/2 miles because the darkness slowed us down even though we had flashlights. The trail went on so we may pick up where we left off at some point.

I bought another refill pack of Alli on Saturday. I'm going through it fast because I take extra on Saturday to help counteract the huge amount of fat I eat that day.

I admit to way overdoing the food on Saturday. Too many cookies, too many Cheese-It's, three mini Reese's cups, too much wine, popcorn at the movies along with a protein bar, and then dinner at Fuddruckers after. I had the 1/2 pound Ostrich burger, low-carb style with no bun and a salad on the side (they actually offer this as a menu choice). I had it with one of those Amstel Light beers that's supposed to be really low in calories. I had such a great night; I didn't want it to end.

Brad and I saw Into the Wild. It was a good movie and didn't seem to be 2 1/2 hours long. The book was better. I highly recommend reading the book and then seeing the movie. The movie makes a lot more sense if you already have the story in mind. Otherwise things may move to fast and it could be easy to lose the thread of the story. Buy the book, read the book. Then go see the movie. I'll give the movie 3 out of 4 stars.

Went to the gym today. Did one hour of upper body weights and core work, and then 30 minutes on the stairmaster (mostly at level 6!) trying to burn though my glycogen stores from overdoing it yesterday. I missed my bus from the train station and it only runs every 30 minutes of Sunday so I just walked the rest of the way to work. I never saw the bus so I guess I beat it. :)

This week will not be week 36 since I am leaving for Seattle on Wednesday and fly back Sunday so there will be no weigh-in either. Week 36 will start when I return on November 18 and my next official weigh-in will be November 25. With two Thanksgiving dinner between then and now - and several days off-plan - I expect to show a pretty good rebound on the scale, one of the reasons I have been dieting my butt off during the week.

I will have no computer access while I am gone so I won't be updating.

I took only one photo this weekend - Abby laying on the cat tree.

A new all time low today! Yay! I hope I don't gain too much back over vacation. I don't want to have to relose too much weight.

Went to the gym. As usual for a Thursday it was really busy, and my energy was low since it's the end of the week for me. I did an hour of weights, upper body and core, 20 minutes on the stationary bike, and 10 minutes on the Treadclimber.

See you all after the weekend with photos. Brad and I are going hiking tomorrow but since it now gets dark at 5 we'll have to take flashlights. Saturday is church and then we plan to go to the movies in the evening.

Week 35, Day 4

Calories eaten yesterday: 1360

Carbs: 115g (35%)
Protein: 132g (40%)

Weight this morning: 131.2 (One week ago: 132.2)
Calories burned in exercise today: 86

A new low for a Wednesday! Excellent. I'll gain it all back next week and need to lose everything I possibly can. This vacation will set me back a long way. I'll be off my diet for a whole week. Eek. I remember how bad Conference set back my loss. It took me weeks to get back to where I had been.

I forgot to mention that I got a compliment at the gym yesterday - two actually. :) First there was that guy who called me "Slimmy" before. As I walked past him he said, "Hey Slimmy. How ya' doin'?" I live for compliments like that.

The other was this big, muscled guy. He's very vain and only flirts with the skinny girls. We were on machines next to one another. He flexed his muscles (and kissed his bicep - he always does that!). I flexed my right arm and he pretended to be all impressed and asked me to do it again. I know I don't have a lot of muscle, but there is something there. :)

Those NutriSystem Nacho Crisps I ordered on October 10th finally arrived today. Good going, NS! 26 Nacho Crisps and 2 chocolate biscotti. The Nacho Crisps are the new reformulated kind. They now have 100 calories instead of 120, 5g net carbs instead of 4g, and only 9g protein instead of the 12g before. I'm not impressed. These also have the new "Nutrisol" stuff in them. I'm not sure why that's supposed to be healthier.

After spending all that money the last two days, I got two e-mail bills today - Direct TV for $58 and PG&E for $33. It's that time of year when the gas bill skyrockets. Bleh. I also spent nearly $70 nonexistent dollars on groceries today.

Weight this morning: 132.2 (One week ago: 133.8)
Calories burned in exercise today: 258

A new low for a Tuesday! Excellent. I'm leaving for Seattle in a week and need all the "wiggle room" I can get.

I have been SO hungry this week. I hope it's my body's last ditch attempt to hold onto some weight and that I will see the scale drop. I know I'm going to gain over vacation so I need to get some weight off for that.

The bloating issue continues. The only thing I can think of is the NS eggs with the veggie sausage crumble. I'll use the rest up and just hope the bloating goes away after that.

Made it to the gym today - one hour with weights - lower body and core, and 30 minutes on the treadmill with the program I found in the last issue of Muscle & Fitness Hers magazine.

The $450 I deposited yesterday is pretty much gone. I needed to buy so much stuff and with only half of it bought the money is already gone. Part of it is from buying high ticket items - my medication and my BCAAs come to mind. My medication from Canada has really gone up in price - even the generic is nearly $1 per pill now! I pay out of pocket and get reimbursed part of the cost, but in the meantime I am out all that money.

Week 35, Day 2

Calories eaten yesterday: 1350
Fat: 31g (21%)
Carbs: 117g (35%)
Protein: 145g (44%)

Weight this morning: 134.2 (One week ago: 134.6)
Calories burned in exercise today: 86

A new low for a Monday! The last time I got really "cleaned out" my weight was up the next day, so being down is good. I just want to get this fat off so bad!

I'm sure everyone remember to turn their clocks back yesterday, but how many of you remembered to change the time on such items as your iPod and digital camera? Then I'm here to remind you. Pull out that iPod and camera now and do it! :)

Ok, on to today. Ran into San Francisco. My bank account was threatening to dip into negative numbers, I had Dad's November check, and deposited it. Thankfully, all the charges hadn't come through yet so there was still a positive balance and no overdraft fees.

Then I went to two GNC stores. The first one had the magnesium aspertate I was after, but didn't have the BCAA powder, so I walked down the street to a second one and they had the powder. They also had sugar free chocolate DaVinci syrup (a large bottle!) so I got that.

Then I checked my mail. My 5 million step shoe token was there, as well as the check for the property Dad gave me. I went back downtown to the bank and deposited that, saving out $30 for three rolls of quarters for laundry.

I walked to work from BART and stopped to pick up some groceries, came to work, paid more money toward the NS food I still owe on, and had my Celexa prescription refilled - almost $100! Yike, has the price ever gone up. This is my last refill so I will have to see the doctor to get another prescription.

I decided that the only way to get NS bears for all the weight I lost (including the weight on Atkins) is to change my NS start weight, and then order a la carte. If you've earned bears and order a la carte, they are supposed to send them to you, and the bears are sent out based on the weight you log on your NS profile. They don't know that I already bought 30, 40, and 50, so I expect a lot of bears with this order, lol! My a la carte order was five plain pancake mixes. They are pretty carby, but they are nice as an occasional treat. No coupons of course, so I had to pay full price.

I changed my goal weight again, just down 1 pounds so that I can say I've lost 70 since starting. That even number is so important and 70 pounds sounds much bigger than 69. I've changed my tickers to reflect this decision.

A new low for a Saturday. :)

Calories burned in exercise today: 348

Almost a new low for a weigh-in day. Though honestly (like the last time this happened), I way overdid the fiber yesterday so a good portion of my loss is just being cleaned out. I expect a rebound next week.

Next week will be my last weigh-in before I leave to visit family for an early Thanksgiving. Next week's weigh-in on the 11th will be week 35, and then week 36 weigh-in will be November 25 instead of the 18th. I'll be gone (and away from my computer) the 14th through the 18th. I can only hope I don't gain too much while gone. Thanksgiving Day itself I have to work, and Brad and I will have a low-carb, low-fat Thanksgiving at work.

The Alli doesn't seem to give me any of the famous side effects. Even with two Alli (prescription strength) and a massive amount of fat I just get slightly soft stools. That's it.

Today I did an hour of weight training (upper body), then 30 minutes of the stairmaster. I missed the bus from the train station to work, so I just walked. I beat the next bus. Never even saw it. :)

Next Saturday is dinner, dessert, and movie night at the Crouch's. They are seeing The End of the Spear, which I have already seen, though Brad hasn't. Brad and I already decided to go to the movies (and maybe dinner) next Saturday and see Into the Wild. It's not a Christian film, but I read the book it was based on, which I highly recommend, so I want to see the movie and it is in theaters right now.

I checked listings and it is at the Emeryville theater. The movie is 2 1/2 hours long! Yike! We figure we will go to the 6:30 pm showing, then have dinner afterwords if we are hungry. Otherwise we will just go back to my house.

I met David and his friends for dinner Saturday night (photo below). I met David online and this was our first time meeting in person. I had been eating all day and wasn't too hungry so I ordered the Greek salad. I had fruit for dessert, but didn't eat the watermelon and only ate one slice of the pineapple. I stayed away from the bread during the meal except for half of a small slice of baguette.

One of David's friends got into a discussion with me about nutrition. When I said I was on a high protein diet he asked me what percentage of my calories came from protein and I said about 40%. He said anything over 30% wasn't healthy. I had to pull the "personal trainer" card to shut him up. I said my personal trainer told me to eat 140g of protein a day (he did), which at my calorie level is about 40%. I eat 1g of protein for every pound I weigh, so that comes out to about 130-140g a day.

Some people are so indoctrinated with the status quo that there is no reasoning with them. I weight train. Last I checked muscle was made of protein, not carbs or fat, so to build muscle I need to eat protein. That's a "duh" if ever there was one.

Here's some photos I took this weekend. Click any of them to enlarge and get the story behind them.

Trolls, and friends

Calories eaten yesterday: 1284
Fat: 41g (29%)
Carbs: 89g (28%)
Protein: 133g (42%)

Weight this morning: 131.4 (One week ago: 131.8)
Calories burned in exercise today: 257

A new low! Woohoo! My previous low was 131.6. :) I hope it doesn't bounce up tomorrow.

I am so done with the Alli message boards. They are heavily moderated to the point of silliness. I had one message rejected twice - first for "personal information" (my first name and Web site URL). So I took out my name and the URL and tried to repost it. This time it was rejected for breaking the group rules. WTF?!? All I tried to post was my personal experience on a lower-carb diet, but hey - why let the truth stand in the way of a good lie - the lies about diet we have been told all our lives. The mods there are so typical of many people - give them a little power and it goes to their heads. *sigh* Some people's children. No wonder America is the fattest country on earth.

It's best to try to lose weight via low-fat and not break our root addiction. After all - that would make sense. We are a nation of carb addicts who have been brainwashed that we aren't really addicted, that the foods we crave are healthy. Um...no. Otherwise we wouldn't be fat. Duh!

One of my problems with NutriSystem is that it doesn't encourage people to break their addictions to the food that made them fat. It just encourages them to eat "healthy" carbs and includes desserts that are full of sugar. Many even have high fructose corn syrup! How is that going to help them keep the weight off when they are still addicted?

I've also had recent trouble on the Yahoo Seventh Day Baptist group I moderate. We've had a particularly annoying troll who finally left and then came back and started spamming the group again. I finally banned him but not before he has mined a bunch of members' e-mail addresses. After I banned him I got a couple e-mails from him, which I ignored. He wants to save me from Christianity. Thanks but no thanks. I'll stick with Jesus, thanks. :)

A friend from Southern California is going to be in town this weekend for a salsa dancing conference. We hope to get together while he is here either Friday or (more likely) Saturday night. Saturday he is going out to dinner with some of his church friend and I (and Brad) are invited.

He's from the United Church of God, so while I don't know if he is saved or not, I do not doubt his love for God. The United Church of God is an offshoot of the Worldwide Church of God, and is filed under the WCG at this link (scroll down past the ads). The link includes information on the WCG and the splinter groups.

I'll be back Sunday with a full report and any photos I take, plus my weigh-in. Have a good weekend everyone!
