New Mel Gibson film - "Apocalypto"

During the previews for End of the Spear on Friday I saw one for a new Mel Gibson film, Apocalypto, coming out this summer. The official web site gives this description: "From Academy Award winning filmmaker Mel Gibson ("The Passion of the Christ," "Braveheart"), comes APOCALYPTO: a heart stopping mythic action-adventure set against the turbulent end times of the once great Mayan civilization. When his idyllic is brutally disrupted by a violent invading force, a man is taken on a perilous journey to a world ruled by fear and oppression where a harrowing end awaits him. Through a twist of fate and spurred by the power of his love for his woman and his family he will make a desperate break to return home and to ultimately save his way of life."

Don't know if I'll see this or not. Depends on whether there is any redeeming value to the violence (such as "The Passion"), or if it's just violence for the sake of violence.

I don't know anything about this yet. I'll have to look it up. Mel generally does good work. Let me know what you think after you learn more...B

Thanks Brad! I don't know much beyond what's posted on the Web site, and several of the links there don't work yet. If this is just going to be violence for the sake of violence, I don't care to see it, but if there's a clear message, then even a rated R film will be worth it.

You are welcome. I'll do a little looking around to find info. I might go to see what direction he has takien this time. Making The Passion of the Christ may have spurred him to seek a new direction with his film productions. We'll see. B
