Week 13, Day 5

Calories eaten yesterday: 1370
Fat: 37g (25%)
Carbs: 72g (22%)
Protein: 167g (50%)

Weight this morning: 138 (One week ago: 138.4)
Calories burned in exercise today: 210

Unless I have a sudden whoosh I'm going to show a gain this week. :(

I was going to go to the gym today, but when I woke up my hamstrings were sore from all the work yesterday. I thought I could still do my arms, but I decided to do a few push-ups on dumbbells to see if I could use my 10 lb. dumbbells to stabilize myself (I can), and WHOOPS!, my upper body is sore as well. So I stayed home and did 30 minutes on my exercise bike while watching TV and then I walked from the BART station to work.

Plans for the weekend:
Brad and I need to file the police report tomorrow regarding the check fraud. Then we will go for just a short walk since we will also be walking Saturday. Saturday he will pick me up after Sabbath School at about 1 pm and we will go walking around Lafayette Reservoir (2.7 miles) and have a picnic lunch. I think I'll pack a peanut butter sandwich, a turkey and cheese sandwich (with low- or no-fat ingredients), both on low-carb bread, and some canned green beans mixed with low-fat mayonnaise.

Regarding the check fraud, I called Bank of America, and they told me to call the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC said they would send me some papers I needed to make out and then take to the bank to dispute the fraudulent account.

Personal Training, Session 5

Calories eaten yesterday: 1302
Fat: 42g (30%)
Carbs: 95g (30%)
Protein: 120g (38%)

Weight this morning: 138.4 (One week ago: 139.6)
Calories burned in exercise today: 263

Same weight as yesterday. :( My body hates me and wants to be fat. I usually lose all week and then gain over the weekend when I eat too much and don't drink enough water. I drank enough yesterday and my eating was good.

The personal training went well. I asked Jason about deadlifts and he showed me the one where you bend your legs, and the one where you don't. He also had me do some squats on the Smith machine and another machine.

I also asked him about push-ups. He took a couple 8 lb. dumbbells to stabilize my wrists (why haven't I thought of that?!). He looked at my form and said my hips were sagging and to concentrate on sticking my butt out to keep my hips up. He then showed me some combo moves.

The first combo: bend down with dumbbells in hand, bending your knees until you are squatting all the way down; explode back into a push-up position; do a push-up; do a row motion on each side with the dumbbells; explode back into the full squat and stand up grasping the dumbbells; do a bicep curl with each arm, then do the Arnold Press.

The second combo: get into the push-up position, palms flat on floor, feet further apart than usual; do a push-up; when you come up, twist your body and raise one arm straight into the air; back to center; another push-up; twist to the other side and raise the other arm. This can also be combined with the above, substituting the twisting for the row. The twisting is a bit of a challenge balance-wise. My balance has never been great.

I'm getting a lot of good ideas from this trainer because I come with questions and things I want to try instead of letting him lead me through a set program.

Week 13, Day 3

Calories eaten yesterday: 1394
Fat: 41g (27%)
Carbs: 71g (21%)
Protein: 162g (48%)

Weight this morning: 138.4 (One week ago: 143.8)
Calories burned in exercise today: 96

Back into the 130s and a new low for a Tuesday. My previous Tuesday low was 139.2. Of course, working though my old Atkins meals this week has lowered my carbs so I'm sure there's some water weight lost that will come back when I finish them.

Update on the identity theft and phone calls. The collection company calling me is on the up and up. Someone has used my name and ID to set up an account at Bank of America and write a bad check to WalMart. I need to go through Telecheck to fix it and it order to do that I need to file an official police report. Hopefully I can do that this Friday. I think the technical name for what they have done to me is check fraud.

I have told the collection company that the bad check is not from me, but they keep calling anyway, usually early in the morning when I'm asleep. I've taken to leaving the ringer on the phone off just so I can sleep. I also need to call B of A and see if there is anything they can do.

At any rate, that whole thing is a mess. My wallet has been stolen once and the entire purse once in the last few years. Now someone is impersonating me. I put a fraud alert on my credit report and printed out my free report. So far everything on it looks good. I need my credit to be good because I can't afford the constant rent increases at my current apartment. There are tons of cat-friendly apartments out there for only $700 a month (yes, only $700 - rents here are quite high).

Week 13, Day 2

Calories eaten yesterday: 1394
Fat: 41g (27%)
Carbs: 73g (22%)
Protein: 161g (48%)

Weight this morning: 140.6 (One week ago: 147.6)
Calories burned in exercise today: 265

A new low for a Monday. That's good. :) Hopefully I'll be back into the 130s tomorrow.

I was supposed to have personal training today, but I got the buses mixed up because of the holiday, so I had to reschedule my appointment for Wednesday. I did go to the gym to work out, though (was planning to anyway).

I forgot the mention one thing about Bay To Breakers. As I was running (with my blue hair!) someone held out a strand of Mardi Gras beads. I wasn't even thinking and grabbed them as I ran past. I know what they mean (you are supposed to expose your breasts to get a strand), and wasn't about to wear them, so I put them in my butt pack and now have a strand of silver Mardi Gras beads hanging on my tackboard. A lot of the nude walkers in Bay To Breakers will wear the beads.

Total loss: -11.6

Ok, now to catch up on other numbers.
Calories eaten Thursday: 1297

Carbs: 99g (31%)
Protein: 118g (37%)
Weight Thursday morning: 138.4 (One week before: 137)

Carbs: 60g (19%)
Protein: 107g (34%)
Weight Friday morning: 137 (One week before: 137.6)
Calories burned in exercise Friday: 237

Woot! Saw my goal weight for one whole day again.

Weight Saturday morning: 136.6 (One week before: 138)
Calories burned in exercise Saturday: 0

Wow! A new low, and two days at or below goal! Yay me! Of course, my carbs Friday were really low. I used one of my old Atkins dinners I had packed before starting NutriSystem. I need to use them up.

Weight Sunday morning: 142.4 (One week before: 143.8)
Calories burned in exercise Sunday: 266

Under 140 four days last week! One less day than last week due to my weekend binge.

I'm not happy with an official weight of 142.4. That's more than a pound above two weeks ago (141.2). Why can't my body ever show an overall loss on Sunday? :( I did drink too much at Applebee's yesterday. For dinner I had the quesadilla burger (yum!) and subbed out the fries for broccoli. My 141.2 weight was the week I got stuck with a salad for dinner and had nothing to drink except Diet Pepsi.

Three months on NutriSystem and all I have to show is 11.4 pounds gone. :( And the first two pounds were just water weight since the highest pre-NS weight I saw on Atkins was 152. I only went up to 154 because of a last binge before I started the program.

Bay To Breakers finally fixed my finish time. It is now showing up correct on their Web site. Here's the new screen shot. And I also took a screen shot of my official finisher's certificate - well, as much of it as would fit on the screen. As you can see, I placed 8571 out of 23,700 total finishers, 2803 out of 11,960 women, and 843 of 3146 women aged 30-39. Not bad I'd say! Yay Bay To Breakers for finally fixing this error (I called them about it last week).

Oh yeah...Gordon Gill's time got mixed up with someone else's. When I pull up his time now it reads 1:43:14. I tried to copy a photo of his off the active.com Web site, but it just comes up blank. I'll have to try it at home. He has gray hair and a mustashe.

Next week Brad and I are talking about a walk around Lafayette Reservoir on Saturday with a picnic lunch. But we would stay on the paved 3 mile trail, so nothing too hard. :) Brad did hurt his knee recently though, so we won't go if it isn't better. :(

Back into the 130s today! Yippee! My 8s are getting loose again. I can actually pull down my stretch 8s from Old Navy without unbuttoning them! :) My ring is also getting loose again. Feels good to get the water bloat off.

Hopefully I can get back to the gym tomorrow and then go walking with Brad on Friday. Saturday we are going to Applebees and I am going to get a quesadilla burger, sub out the fries with broccoli (yum!) and get a glass of Riesling. Mmm mmm. I can hardly wait.

Bought more Weight Watchers dinners at the store today. I'm all stocked up on everything I need to do my own dinners - chicken breast, shrimp, frozen veggies, and WW dinners. I found one dinner that's only 140 calories! I haven't tried it yet, but I like the other dinners so I now have a bunch of these.

I also found store brand boca burgers on sale so I bought two packages. I'll have to continue looking for sales on these. They are much cheaper than NS burgers, though at least the NS burgers are meat.

Calories burned in exercise today: 95

Whew! That all-meat day yesterday was hard. I was seriously jonesing for carbs - even veggies. Back to regular food today.

I should run out of NutriSystem dinners by the end of the week and will be doing dinner on my own by next week. I'm looking forward to 1) getting my carbs down, or 2) being able to have a carbier breakfast without fear of my carbs going too high.

My weight this morning is pretty much back to what it was Sunday, so I have lost the weight from one binge day and now just need to lose the other. I'm sure I gained some fat, but mostly water. I'm wearing my fat jeans and am back to notch 5 on my belt; at my goal weight I am at notch 6.

Week 11 Weigh-In

There are two posts today, so please be sure to check out the post below for information on Sunday's race! :)

First, my weigh-in numbers.
Start: 154

Week 11: 143.8 (+2.6)
Total loss: -10.2

Managed to undo last week's loss with just one binge day. *sigh* It's so close to what my tickers currently read that I see no reason to change them. I'll update them next week.

Ok, now to catch up on other numbers.

Weight Sunday morning: 143.8 (One week before: 141.2)
Calories burned in exercise Sunday: 739

Under 140 five days in a row last week! That's one victory at least.

I have a lot of damage to undo this week. I've gained nearly 10 pounds from two days of binging, so it's time to get serious again. Today is an all meat day, and then back to my tweaked version of NutriSystem tomorrow. I will get this weight back off!

There's nothing much to report about Friday or Saturday. They were pretty normal days except that Brad and I didn't go walking Friday and Saturday was an all-I-could-eat carb fest. I started the morning with a double chocolate muffin, and Brad and I had pizza for dinner (half pepperoni and half Hawaiian) and Cinnastix for dessert. Pizza Hut said they didn't have the Cheesy Bites pizza that I wanted, nor the Cherry Pizza Dessert that I wanted. The dessert is listed on the menu at the Web site, though. :-p

I was really tired after the race so I scrapped doing anything today and slept until noon. Whew. I'm still wiped out. But my muscles feel pretty good and not as sore as in years past so I did the 1.5 mile walk to work from BART.

Heart "Breaker"? Not a chance!

Whew! Bay To Breakers was quite the race this year!

I got up at 5 and was at the start line a little before 7. The race started promptly at 8 and I was across the finish line before 9:30! :) The timing chip worked quite well and was within 1 second of the time I clocked on my watch. I finished in 1:24:30 - besting last year's time by just over 5 minutes! My overall placement was 8564. Last year's placement was 7553, even though it took me longer to finish (1:29:44). At the 5 mile marker last year my time was 1:02; this year's it was only 0:58. (results)

I ran the whole race! I only slowed down to a walk on the Hayes Street Hill. I ran the whole rest of the race. When I ran the numbers, even counting the hill, I was doing 11.2 minutes per mile - a little faster than 5 mph which is a 12 minute mile.

The timing chips have one major drawback - data entry error. When I got my chip read at the end of the race I discovered they had me listed as "Gordon Gill," a 54 year old man from San Jose. When I input my name I get his time. His bib number was 928 and mine was 931 and somebody typed something in wrong somewhere so that we ended up transposed. He was sure faster than me at 59:20. Here's a screenshot of my race results. Notice how Mr. Gill's name got substituted for mine.

The top finisher was a woman, Edna Kiplagat, who of course is from Kenya (Kenyans always win this race). Her time was 38:55. They gave the elite women a 4:40 head start - the difference between the fastest male time and the fastest female time. The top male finisher, coming in third, was John Korir at 34:44.

A man died at the race this year. It happens occasionally. The story about it is here. I also found a video about Bay To Breakers (no longer available); it shows the EMTs working on the man.

The number of runners this year was 35,000 registered and an estimated 25,000 unregistered.

I'm detoxing from carbs today with an all meat day. The only solid food I'm allowing myself is meat. I'm using chicken breasts and some shrimp to keep the calories and fat down. I found my fat jeans and am wearing them until I can lose some of this bloat. I've put on about 10 pounds over the last two days.

I have the photos I took of the race up. There's too many to put them here, so here's the Flickr photo set.

[Later edit: I found my split time for reaching the top of the Hayes Street Hill. It was 32:01.] :)

Wow! I actually saw my goal weight today! Of course it's not official until I can see it on a Sunday, and the race this weekend will set me back quite a ways. I'll probably gain around 10 lbs. Hopefully very little of it will be actual fat!

Still, the first step to hitting goal officially, is to hit it unofficially! Yay me! And yay the tweaked NS program I've been doing.

Here's what I will look like when I hit 137 officially. Click it to enlarge.

me at my (unofficial) goal weight of 137

No exercise today. I went along MacArthur on the bus and got my hair trimmed for the race so it will look it's best. They sold some drinks at the salon so I picked up a Gatorade for the race. Then I stopped at a small Christian bookstore, but they didn't have the last Left Behind book either. Any longer and the used price on Amazon will come down enough to warrant buying it online.

The writing on the back of the shirt I want to wear for the race (a Bible verse - Isaiah 40:31) looked really faded, so I brought the shirt to work with me and used some free time to go back over the letters again with a laundry pen. So now it will be clearly visible for the race. :)

I'll be back on Monday with my official weight, but it won't be pretty!

New all-time low!

Calories eaten yesterday: 1171
Fat: 37g (30%)
Carbs: 82g (30%)
Protein: 108g (39%)

Weight this morning: 137.2 (One week ago: 138.6)
Calories burned in exercise today: 262

A new all-time low for me! Woohoo! My previous low weight (on Atkins) was 137.6! It's unofficial of course, but the first step to an official low is an unofficial low. :) I have a feeling I'll be up tomorrow. My body will go, "Whoa there! Not so fast," and hold onto weight. Hey body, relax. Three more days and you'll get lots of food to store as fat and make you happy. Okay?!? So please just cooperate until then.

I'm totally tickled pink! I'm trying to be really good this week because I will gain a ton over the weekend with the carb binging.

Today was my last gym workout before the race. My butt is still sore from Monday so I focused on arms, back, and core today. Now I think every muscle in my body aches, lol! My shoulders sure are sore. Ah well. It's a good pain. Tomorrow I will sleep in (yay!) and just do some walking, then have total rest for two days (Friday/Saturday).

On my way to the gym this morning a guy sat next to me in the bus with one of those huge slices of pizza in a box and ate it. And it was my favorite: pepperoni! Why are some people so cruel? Then after my workout as I waited for the train a woman down the platform pulled out a Subway cookie and ate it. I love Subway cookies! Here I am trying to be good because I'm going to gain this weekend and I have all these delicious foods eaten in front of my face! Argh!!!

Saturday plan: I'll get home from church and order the pizza right away. I'll get a large cheesy bites pizza, 1/2 pepperoni and 1/2 Hawaiian (will they do that?). It looks like the brownie bites for dessert are Domino's, but Pizza Hut has something called a "Cherry Dessert Pizza." That sounds good. :) Call Brad as soon as I am home so he can come straight over. Save out two slices of pizza for Sunday breakfast. Sent any extra food (yeah right, lol!) home with Brad.

Yay! Down below 140 again today.

My butt is SOOO sore today from the personal training yesterday! That trainer is a sadist!

Nothing new to report today. Went grocery shopping and walked to work from the train station for exercise. I'm feeling better in general with the carbs down a bit and protein up.

More NutriSystem food reviews:
Microwavable Apple Cake dessert - Like the chocolate cake it's not overly sweet, but this is a good thing. No need to feed the sweets demon in me. Lots of protein in this treat, so that's good. I cooked it flat, like a big cookie, but it was minimally helpful in getting rid of the "soy sponge" texture. Oh well, it still tasted good. 140 calories, 12g net carbs, 15g protein.

Personal Training, Session 4

Calories eaten yesterday: 1276
Fat: 29g (22%)
Carbs: 72g (24%)
Protein: 155g (52%)
Calories burned in exercise: 265

Weight this morning: 141.6 (One week ago: 141.6)
Calories burned in exercise today: 265

I suck. For the first time I've managed to gain weight between Sunday and Monday. My body truly hates me.

Brad wants me back on Atkins. Here's what he said to me today:
As you have switched over to NutriSystem, your personality's a little bit different. You're a little more on edge...You do much better on the Atkins...You seem more glum [on Nutrisystem]...a gloomy attitude.

The personal trainer just about killed me today. The first half of the session was fairly easy. Walking lunges, calf raises, hamstring work on a ball, and relays: run forward, run backward, side to side down and back, grapevine down and back, then one final sprint forward. That was actually kind of fun. My fastest time was just under 30 seconds.

Then the sadism began, lol. He had me doing these hops (two-legged jumps forward), and had me doing two-legged jumps onto one of those raised plastic benches they use in the step class - as many as I can do in 30 seconds, and he made me do it three times! I did 11 jumps the first set, 11 the second, and 13 the third. Those two jumping exercises just about did me in! Thank God these are only half hour sessions.

He tired out my legs so much that I just did the leg press machine during my weight training and then did arms, core, and back after that. I counted the personal training session as 10 minutes cardio and 10 minutes weight training.

My next session isn't for two weeks because the race is next week so I won't be in any shape to work out on Monday.

I had a lot of energy today. I think this is due to a few factors: 1) I ate low-carb, high-protein yesterday. 2) I got enough sleep last night. 3) I had Nutlettes high-protein soy cereal for breakfast - it gave me both the protein and calories I needed to get through my workout. I just do so much better on protein than carbs. I'll have this for breakfast again the next time I go to the gym.

Found a 10 lb. Nutlettes refill on the Dixie Diners' site and bought that. That should keep me for quite a while.

Carbs: 120g (37%)
Protein: 64g (20%)
Weight Friday morning: 137.6 (One week before: 138)
Calories burned in exercise Friday: 345

This equals my lowest weight ever! Yay!

Weight Saturday morning: 137.8 (One week before: 140)
Calories burned in exercise Saturday: 0

Under 140 five days in a row! That might be a record for me. Not sure. It is a record since starting NutriSystem.

I did well this past week. 2.4 pounds down makes up for last week's gain. That's 1.6 pounds down over two weeks. Could be better, but could be worse, too. That's about 3/4 of a pound per week (0.8 lbs). Due to the race next week I'll show a gain, but that's okay. I'll get back to NS and lose it again. It will just delay my getting to goal. Hopefully I'll see a new all time low this week. Anyway, because I'll show a big gain next week I'm not changing my tickers this week.

Friday I redyed by hair blue. It's really dark blue right now but will fade.

Then I went walking with Brad. We covered about 6.5 miles. We went up the trail by the parking lot to the East Ridge Trail, along that to Phillips Loop. Down Phillip's Loop to Eucalyptus, and then down Eucalyptus to the Stream Trail. Followed the Stream Trail all the way back to the parking lot.

After that we went to WalMart where I bought another 20 lb. dumbbell so that I have two (already had one), more EAS protein shakes, and a new plastic garbage can. My old one was plastic and molding. When plastic starts to mold it's time to get rid of it! Then we went to Starbucks for coffee.

Saturday Brad took me to Cameron's British pub in Half Moon Bay. Another place to add to my "do not visit" list. I couldn't get any entree because they were all served with only sugars (cole slaw) or starches (potato, french fries, etc.). There was no hot veggie I could sub in. I had to settle for a lobster salad that was way too salty. I drank too much Friday so I just had Diet Pepsi to drink.

This morning I called Mom while heading to the gym since it's Mother's Day. She sounded much better, but is on an all liquid diet due to her stomach tube.

The race is a week from today! I'll be eating a lot of spinach to get my iron level up before the race. I'm still a bit low on blood and figure I can counteract that a bit by upping my iron levels. So I will be having spinach salads Tuesday-Friday.

I have so little energy on NutriSystem. Part of it is the decrease in calories, but I think part is the higher carbs. I just don't do well on so many carbs. Brad wants me to go back to low-carb, and I want to go back to low-carb. I'm going to work on doing better at getting my carbs on NS down. I just feel so much better and have more energy when my carbs are low.

Here's some photos from the weekend. Click any of them to enlarge.

Which Polyhedral (Dice) Are You?

I am a d6
You are a good old-fashioned six-sided cube, otherwise known as a d6. Others know you to be plain, predictable, conservative, average, ordinary, and downright boring. You prefer to describe yourself as dependable, honest, practical and trustworthy. People usually know what to expect from you, since you rarely hold any surprises. You hate to make decisions, and if forced to decide, you'll always fall back on how it was done in the past. You always order the same thing at your favorite restaurant, and your jokes, while funny, are never too offensive. It seems that you are well liked, but maybe that's simply because there's nothing to hate.

Week 10, Day 5

Calories eaten yesterday: 1321
Fat: 40g (29%)
Carbs: 107g (34%)
Protein: 117g (37%)

Weight this morning: 138.6 (One week ago: 138.8)
Calories burned in exercise today: 248

Looks like I hit 3 million steps yesterday on Walker Tracker! I didn't even notice until someone there pointed it out to me. You can see my current step count, miles, etc. in the little widget at the top of the right hand column.

My second Walden Farms order came today. They are running another special in May - buy one get one free - so I placed a third order since today is payday. I also put some money toward the "Bill Me Later" payment (how I am doing NS). I now have my first month totally paid off and can work on the second.

Anyway, Walden Farms has a line of zero calorie products. Technically, it's less than 5 calories per serving so they can say 0. I think a whole bottle of salad dressing might have 50 calories. I occasionally use these dressings along with the Salad Spritzers. Here's the link for May's special. Use those codes when you check out to receive your discount. :) There's a limit of 10 bottles per order, but you can order multiple times if you wish.

Made it to the gym today. I seemed to have better energy with a low-carb breakfast of just the NS eggs. Did an hour of weights and felt pretty strong, and a half hour of cardio on a stationary bike.

Tomorrow I am supposed to dye my hair for the race, then go for a walk with Brad. This time we'll go up the unnamed trail to the East Ridge Trail, along that, then down Phillip's Loop (which we haven't done before) to the Eucalyptus Trail. Down Eucalyptus to the Stream Trail and back to the car.

Since we didn't make it to dinner in Half Moon Bay two weeks ago we'll do that Saturday.

Week 10, Day 4

Calories eaten yesterday: 1316
Fat: 39g (28%)
Carbs: 96g (30%)
Protein: 130g (41%)

Weight this morning: 138.6 (One week ago: 139.6)
Calories burned in exercise today: 88

The first time I saw the 130s was Week 6 on the program, and that was just for two days (although I forgot to weigh that Saturday). The next week I also spent two days in the 130s. The next week four days. Last week it was three days. So far this week I've been under 140 two days, and I first saw that under-140 number on Tuesday. I've never seen it so early in the week before. My low weight to beat so far on NutriSystem is 138. My lowest weight of all time is 137.6.

Conference themeBooked my plane ticket to General Conference today. Since the last time I checked, Expedia's price went up and Southwest's went down. So I booked on Southwest. $178 from Oakland, California to Portland, Oregon. Not bad! The money I have in savings should cover room, board, and Conference fees, though I would dearly love to come up with the extra $95 to get my own room. I printed out two registration forms, one for a shared room ($314 total) and one for my own room ($408 total). I'll have to see how much I have in savings. Off the top of my head I think it's around $350.

Salad SpritzerBought groceries today and found a new Salad Spritzer flavor - Balsamic Breeze - and it was on sale: buy one get one free! I'm going to try it on tonight's salad. So far the only one I have seen was the Red Wine Mist. At first I didn't like the Salad Spritzers, but they have grown on me. :) I also bought spinach salad to eat next week to get my iron level up before the race, and more boneless skinless chicken breast to help me do diet-friendly meals even when I can't afford my next NS order.

Week 10, Day 3

Calories eaten yesterday: 1349
Fat: 40g (28%)
Carbs: 90g (28%)
Protein: 141g (44%)

Weight this morning: 139.6 (One week ago: 141.8)
Calories burned in exercise today: 94

Back to the 139s again, but far from a new low on NutriSystem, much less a new low of all time. *sigh* When will this weight come off? I lose and gain the same water weight every week.

Ran into the City today. Checked my mail and stopped and Old Navy to see if I could find a suitable pair of blue denim shorts. I only found one that I liked, but the size 8 was low rise and "stretch" and therefore loose in the waist. Probably been tried on many times and all stretched out. Because they were hip huggers, I could pull them off without unbuttoning them! I looked for a size 6 to try on and see how it fit, but wouldn't you know it, that was the one size they didn't have. I ended up not getting anything.

They had some really CUTE summer outfits, but I don't need more clothes, lol. Just one pair of jeans shorts in light blue denim would be great.

Due to the City run my only exercise was walking to work from BART. I stopped at McDonald's and got one of those "Hugo" drinks - diet Coke, of course.

Weekend plans - dye my hair on Friday, then walk with Brad, and go out to dinner in Half Moon Bay with Brad and Lisa on Saturday evening. :) Should be fun.

Personal Training, Session 3

Calories eaten yesterday: 1329
Fat: 41g (29%)
Carbs: 105g (32%)
Protein: 126g (39%)
Calories burned in exercise: 223

Weight this morning: 141.6 (One week ago: 141.8)
Calories burned in exercise today: 246

Had my third personal training session today. He said he was late so this one was on the house, too, so I have four more left. These are half hour sessions and the time really flew by! I asked about exercises with free weights and an exercise ball so that I can get more ideas of stuff I can do at home and he showed me a bunch of things. He wrote me out a workout plan and I'm psyched to give it a try. :)

Xena and Abby relaxXena and Abby got out last night. I found Xena down one floor, very freaked out. I picked her up and held her tight while she struggled and carried her back upstairs. Abby was long gone by then. I'm sure she'll come home when she gets hungry.

My medication from Canada came today. $69 for a three month supply. :) My employer will reimburse 80% of that. They will not reimburse the $99 free-shipping-for-life deal I signed up for. So that's $99 out of my own pocket. *sigh* There went my tax refund. :-p

My current plan for NutriSystem: First, use up the dinners. To accomplish this as quickly as possible, I'm eating two dinners a day and no lunches. The dinners are high in calories and carbs and if I eat a carb heavy breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack it's just too much, so I'm having to try to go lower carb on breakfast. I'm going to get rid of the dinners and then do my own and also use low-carb Weight Watchers and Lean Cuisine meals instead - fewer calories and carbs. Due to having two dinners, I have had to decrease the amount of cottage cheese from 1 cup to 1/2 cup to keep the calories about the same. Calorie-wise I'm eating about 1350 a day.

Two, eat up the rest of the cookies and don't order more. They are very high in calories and their protein comes from "vital wheat gluten" - protein from a carb source! Not good. It's the same thing added to most cat foods to add protein. I won't feed that stuff to my cats and shouldn't be eating it myself.

Ok, now to catch up on other numbers.
Calories eaten Thursday: 1446
Fat: 37g (23%)

Protein: 142g (39%)
Weight Thursday morning: 138.8 (One week before: 138.6)

Fat: 28g (20%)

Weight Friday morning: 138 (One week before: 139)
Calories burned in exercise Friday: 335

Weight Saturday morning: 140 (One week before: 139.2)
Calories burned in exercise Saturday: 0

Crap. I gained almost a pound. *sigh* I always get stuck at this weight. :( I even saw a new low on Friday (138), but somehow gained almost 5 1/2 pounds over that. Even my ring is tight. I can't get it off without some sort of lubrication. My body hates me. I haven't lost any weight in three weeks!

It was a busy weekend.

First, I don't know if I wrote about it, but a week ago Thursday while I was washing clothes, someone tried to convince me to let them in the building and into my apartment. A black girl was standing outside the front entrance. I guess she saw me in the laundry room since the window in the laundry room looks out on the street. She was saying, "I really need to pee. I've been waiting for the bus and it isn't coming." I told her the buses don't run this late and that I didn't know her and she didn't know anyone in the building, so - sorry, but I can't let you in.

Was she on the up and up? Who knows? She could have had a knife or had a boyfriend waiting in the bushes with a gun. No way was I letting her into the building and God forbid - into my apartment. Do criminals really think people are that stupid? I guess some are.

Anyway, I mention that incident because of what happened this last Friday. I got a call on my home phone from someone claiming to be from a collection company. She said I had a $50.02 check to WalMart that had bounced. I don't write checks at WalMart; I always use my debit card. She asked if my account had funds to cover it. Since she woke me up and I was still half asleep I said I thought my account did. She said it would cost $11 to put the check through again and asked for my debit card number. I was in bed and didn't have my card with me. I also wanted a chance to look this up in my checkbook since I didn't remember writing a check to WalMart. I told her to call me back. Of course she never did. I looked through my checkbook and there was no purchase that I've made at WalMart with a check, and no debit card purchase for $50.02.

At first I thought someone might be trying to use some old checks of mine; I did have my purse stolen last year. Now I think this woman was purpetrating a phishing scame on me - attempting to get me to give her personal information. Many phishing attempts these days are via e-mail or Web site, but some people still use the old form of phishing - call someone on the phone pretending to work for some company and try to trick people into giving you their credit card information. Some people still fall for it. Thank God I didn't.

After the phone call I managed to fall back asleep and did some sleuthing when I woke up.

Friday afternoon Brad and I went walking. We took the Stream Trail all the way up to the upper parking area, then back along the East Ridge Trail and down an unnamed trail to the lower parking lot. My pedomater said 6.7 miles and it took as 2 hours and 18 minutes, but I took a lot of short steps climbing up or going down hills.

Here's some photos. Click them to enlarge.

25 Books that leave a legacy

This was mentioned on another blog. I thought it was pretty interesting, so I thought I'd share it here. USA Today published their list of 25 Books that leave a legacy. I only mention is here because Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolition was #7 on the list - the only diet book on the list. It is descibed like this: Dr. Atkins ignited the low-carb craze, the reigning diet of the '90s. Bread and pasta were out, and high protein was in.

Other notible books, Harry Potter was #1 and The DaVinci Code was #3. Left Behind was #12 and The Purpose Driven Life was #13. I've read roughly 5 of the 25 books listed.

My spiritual birthday!

Calories eaten yesterday: 1406
Fat: 33g (22%)
Carbs: 126g (38%)
Protein: 132g (39%)

Weight this morning: 138.8 (One week ago: 138.6)
Calories burned in exercise today: 263

No new low today like last week. Maybe if I drink lots I'll see a new low tomorrow. :-/

birthday cakeI'm 11! Today marks 11 years since I decided to follow Christ. If becoming a Christian is being "born again," then that means I have two birthdays to celebrate. :) I've certainly grown in the last 11 years. The things I would try to get away with before now don't interest me. It's all part of maturity. :)

Today is also the National Day of Prayer. I did my prayer "shift" last night since I don't get home until so late. It was very peaceful to pray.

My new digital food scale came today! It looks so modern and nouveau. I think I will really like it.

Did a full workout today and I am bushed. It's going to take a while to find the right breakfast to get me through a whole workout. Today I just had lean turkey ham. No energy for weight training, but did okay on the cardio.

It's supposed to rain tomorrow so Brad and I may not be able to go walking, or may have to do something like walk around the lake in the rain. *sigh* I really want to take the Stream Trail up to the East Ridge and then go all the way along the East Ridge Trail back to the trail to the car.

More NutriSystem food reviews:
Thousand Island Dressing with Chicken Breast lunch - Not as bad as the Balsamic Vinaigrette with Turkey Breast - probably due to the extra sugar in it - but still not very good. Not a keeper. 170 calories, 18g net carbs, and 12g protein.

Zesty Cajun Style Chicken and Sausage with Rice dinner - Pretty damn good. Too bad it's so low in protein. And what's with the sausage pieces being little cubes? Can't they make sausage look like sausage? 250 calories, 22g net carbs, and 17g protein.

Week 9, Day 4

Calories eaten yesterday: 1236
Fat: 25g (19%)
Carbs: 122g (41%)
Protein: 117g (40%)

Weight this morning: 139.6 (One week ago: 139.8)
Calories burned in exercise today: 191

Back into the 130s today. I guess that's good.

My Mom is in the hospital again. She couldn't swallow anything and so was dehydrated. I talked to her yesterday and she said they are going to operate Friday and put a feeding tube in. They don't know if this is related to her Parkinson's disease or not. If it is she may never be able to eat normally again. She said she did get some chocolate pudding down, but it took her an hour to eat it. A person can't live like that. Pray for her if you are the praying type.

I'm two months into NutriSystem and have barely lost 11 lbs. This is depressing because I really hoped I'd be farther along by now. My stomach still sticks way out and I'm still hanging out in the low- to mid-140s, right where I always get stuck. My belt is stuck at 5 notches in, I can't wear the size 8 Levi's Brad bought me, and I feel like I'm starving all the time. I lose and gain the same three pounds of water weight every week.

I want off of NutriSystem at some point! Why can't I lose the weight? Why is my body being so stubborn?!? And Bay To Breakers is only a couple weeks off and I need to eat a lot of carbs to do well in the race, which means going off NS for a couple days. I hope I will be strong enough to do less damage than in years past. :(

I'm terrified about Bay To Breakers. I need a lot of calories and carbs to get through it and I'm afraid I'll balloon up again and it won't come off. I'm planning on eating a lot but not stuffing myself, and sending the extra food home with Brad (we always get a large stuffed crust pizza and dessert). I'll save out two pieces of pizza for breakfast - it's a great breakfast when you are planning on running several miles! I just hope I don't gain too much and that it's just water weight that comes off! The race is May 20. Lord have mercy.

I'm participating in a project called 24 Hours of Flickr. Everyone chronicles their life for one day - this Saturday - and posts those pictures up. I'll put all those pictures in a set and post the link here.

More NutriSystem food reviews. I haven't tried any new foods in a while. More are coming. I bought some foods I haven't tried off of someone.

Chicken Noodle Soup lunch - Not bad. Too small for a lunch, but I think I will put a couple on my next order. 110 calories, 14g net carbs, and 12g protein.

Chocolate Pudding dessert - This is the one without the chips. I prefer it with the chips, but this is pretty good, too. Yummy and chocolaty. 100 calories, 9g net carbs, and 12g protein.

Southwestern Style Chicken with Sauce dinner - This was great, even if the chicken was a little bland. I ended up melting a slice of fat free cheese over it and YUM YUM! 250 calories, 21g net carbs, and 26g protein.

Beltane

Calories eaten yesterday: 1338

Carbs: 112g (36%)
Protein: 130g (42%)

Weight this morning: 140.8 (One week ago: 141)
Calories burned in exercise today: 88

Well, today is Beltane but so far it's been okay. In the past this has been a tough day for me.

The good news is that it's my spiritual birthday in two days. I'll be 11. :) Where have the years gone?

Went grocery shopping today so my only exercise was the 1.5 mile walk to work. Hopefully I can hit the gym tomorrow.

I'm SO hungry and not losing weight. Hopefully this is my body's last ditch attempt to hold onto the weight before I drop some more. I can hope, right?
