Conference Journal, Day 2

Mealtime Mayhem
Day 2
Monday, July 30

The first full day of Conference. I woke up just before my alarm by the college's church bells chiming 7 a.m. I got up and dressed and went to breakfast. After breakfast I found the computer lab and dropped a blog post.

Then I went to morning worship with the youth singing on stage and us singing along. Then there was morning Bible study. Pastor Steve was today's speaker and he spoke on "God's word is truth."

Then there was some boring business that I skipped, and then lunchtime. Then more boring business which I ditched to go to the fitness center. I managed to get into the weight/cardio room and did some weights and just 10 minutes of walking on the treadmill before it was time for committee meetings. I chose "Reference and Counsel." This lasted until 3:30, so I had some free time before dinner.

After dinner was evening worship, then a fellowship time before bed.

Update on the bathroom situation: The third floor bathroom in the men's wing has been designated for women so now I just have to go up one flight of stairs. I don't think anyone is staying on the third floor, at least on the men's side, so the bathroom is only used by the women on the second floor men's side. We pretty much have it to ourselves.

The meals here are so-so. While there are a lot of sugar-free dessert choices and three different diet sodas (including one caffeine-free), the main courses aren't very good. All meat is slathered in sugary sauces and there isn't even lunch meat available at lunch, just peanut butter with added sugar and sugary jelly. I am eating a LOT of salads and topping it with tons of tuna fish for protein. I know that much tuna isn't healthy due to the high mercury content, but one week won't kill me. The salad bar also has cottage cheese. These two foods are my main sources of protein in this high-carb college cafeteria. I guess I'll be eating my sugar-free peanut butter on low-carb bread more often than I planned.

Conference Journal, Day 1

As you can see, I got computer access! Yippee skippy!

I'm here!
Day 1
Sunday, July 29

Got up at 6 a.m. and was out the door by 7. My weight was up this morning, putting me 0.2 above my goal weight. Oh well. I have my "Pound" Nutribear here with me to keep me on track.

My plane took off on time and we landed in Portland a little before 11 a.m. The bus out to the conference site was at 12:30 p.m. I arrived at Conference around 1:30 or 2, got checked in and settled in and then explored a bit with a campus map to reaquaint myself with this place.

I'm in Edwards Residence Hall, Room 215, on the men's side. This means not just walking to the other end of the building for a bathroom, but because of the way the building is set up (men's and women's wings are not connected), to another floor. I must ask for a room closer to a bathroom next year. 216 steps round trip just to use the bathroom in the middle of the night is not acceptable.

Ok, bye! More tomorrow!

Week 21, Day 5

Calories eaten yesterday: 1351

Protein: 122g (38%)

Weight this morning: 133.4 (One week ago: 134.6)
Calories burned in exercise today: 244

Made it to the gym. My trainer thinks it's good I'm taking a week off because I work out so much. But by the time all is said and done I will be away from the gym for two weeks and that totally sucks. But one week off won't be a bad thing. It's the second week away that will suck because I will want to get back to working out.

On my way out of the gym I found a cute tank top that was only about $6.50 even including tax, so I bought it. It's white and says, "This girl's no dumbbell" in light green lettering with a picture of a dumbbell and "Reebok" below it. Since it's a tank top I got a medium. Anything with sleeves tends to bind me in the armpits due to my large chest.

They had a party for Jon at work today, with tons of carby stuff around. My saving grace was 1) I'd just had my post-workout protein shake and that took the edge off my appetite, and 2) none of it was chocolate. I popped some sugar-free cinnamon gum in my mouth and chewed on that, then got online while everyone was eating around me and focused on the monitor. That helped.

Even the supposedly "healthy" fruit they had out was high-carb and high-glycemic - grapes, watermelon, and apricots in "honey water." Thankfully I don't care for watermelon and I stay away from honey. The granola - my weakness - had 270 calories for 1/3 cup - all starch, sugar, and fat. Brad took it back to Don's desk in the other room so I wouldn't have to stare at it.

And I'm proud of myself. I didn't take One. Single. Bite. :)

Ok, the weekend plans. Friday - bleach my roots and redye my hair for Conference, then go walking with Brad along the East Ridge Trail. I also need to start on the low-carb pizza and donuts for Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday is church, but we are not having lunch this week because so many people are gone, so I should be home early. Brad and I will have some of the low-carb pizza and donuts. The leftovers will be packed to eat Sunday since the first meal at Conference won't be until dinnertime around 5 p.m. so breakfast and lunch are on the road and on my own. Finish packing Saturday except for the essentials that have to wait for Sunday morning.

Sunday I'll drop a quick post here with my weight as well as my nutrition totals for Thursday and Friday, and Brad will be by to pick me up at 7 a.m. :-p I can't promise access next week or not so if you don't see any posts, that's why.

Week 21, Day 4

Calories eaten yesterday: 1323

Protein: 144g (46%)

Weight this morning: 134.4 (One week ago: 135.8)
Calories burned in exercise today: 101

Ray brought brownie bites into work last night. I ate about half of one (just two bites for a taste) before I looked at the nutritional information on the bottom of the package and saw that they were 130 calories per tiny brownie! Grrr. I would have taken a smaller two bites if I would have known that. I'm kicking myself for not checking the nutritional info first.

Fought the clutter demons last night. I needed four things out of my walk-in closet for my vacation. They were in four separate places, and two of the items were buried a couple boxes deep - different boxes of course. I did some minor closet cleaning breaking down and tossing out some empty boxes, but the place is still waist deep in stuff. *sigh* At any rate, I now have a fitted sheet for my bed (they charge for linens at this school and only give you flat sheets), and found my sleeping bag that I will use as a blanket. Also dragged out my suitcases and my nice Pullman carry-on.

I won't be able to use up the veggies in the fridge before I leave, so it looks like Brad will get some salad and fresh veggies. They won't keep while I am gone. I'll have to rebuy them when I get back.

I finally got back into the Fitness Forums on the NutriSystem boards! I have been locked out of those for the last two weeks. I saw a post from a moderator saying to post if you had problems, and within a few hours I was back in!

Weight this morning: 134.8 (One week ago: 136.4)

Since I will be on vacation next week, it will not be week 22. I will pick up with week 22 when I get home the following Sunday. I will post a very quick message with my weigh-in next Sunday morning. If I have computer access at the college I will post daily journals. If not I will post the daily journals when I get back. I have a plan and hope not to gain any real weight while away!

My plan while away - eat pretty healthy. Hit up the leans meats and cheeses at lunch and the salads at dinner. I'm taking some Atkins meal bars and sugar-free chocolate bars with me. I need to stay out of the sugary desserts if I want clear skin. We'll see how strong I am when I get there or if my resolve melts like a snowman in July.

I'll be taking Hoodia pills to help control my appetite, as well as Dexatrim Max 2-O (tablets you add to bottled water). The Dexatrim should help keep the munchies at bay between meals and will give me something to take the Hoodia with since it has to be taken 15 minutes before meals. I also have some of those free Reduce tablets I received that are supposed to block fat and carbs, so I will definitely be taking those. I don't normally take all these things; I just want to minimize damage to my weight while on vacation. I'll be finishing off the NanoSlim while on vacation and will start the Zantrex-3 when I get back.

Made it to the gym today and did my standard workout. Ran into my old trainer and told him I made goal. He high-fived me and was happy. He said I looked great. :)

Nothing much to report today. Ran into the City, walked to work from the BART station, and stopped at WalMart to pick up a few items.

I was up a 1/2 pound today over yesterday. Kind of expected that. I'm not pulling my goal bear out of the closet yet as I will probably gain while on vacation. If I can come in at 137 or less the week after I get back (Sunday, August 11), then I will pull her out. :)

Here's my updated goals:
1. hit 137 on any day (made Thursday, May 17!)
2. be under 140 at a nighttime weigh-in (made Thursday, July 12!)
3. hit 137 on a Sunday (made Sunday, July 22!)
4. hit 134 four days in a week

Well, I finally saw my goal weight on a Sunday! :) I know I should be jumping for joy, but it's not a real weight. Let's just say I was somewhat sick yesterday and spent a lot of time in the bathroom. My intestines were doing loop-de-loops. Last week I was dehydrated; this week I was well cleaned out, lol. I think it was a combination of too much magnesium and too much fiber. God only knows but I didn't feel well the whole day. I had only one glass of wine because of how I felt. I'm still feeling some of the residual effects today.

It's impossible to lose 2.6 pounds of fat in a week so I know I will see a big rebound next week. For now, I will technically remain at goal since the Sunday weigh-in is the only one that counts, no matter what readings I see the rest of the week. Like last week I will be up tomorrow.

Next week will be my last weigh-in before vacation and I expect to see a pretty big rebound.

So Friday Brad and I went walking. Brad said he wanted to visit my church again, and he did come on Saturday. After the service and lunch (which I slept through I was so tired), we all went over to pastor's house for our biannual business meeting. It lasted only about two hours. We decided to vote to leave the BJC at Conference. But Oscar wanted to vote to stay in, so out of deference to him we split our vote. We should get 8 vote and we will split it 7:1.

Here's photos from the hike Brad and I did on Friday. We did a long one, going first up to the West Ridge Trail, then back down to the valley and up to the East Ridge Trail. Click any photo for a larger size.

Protein: 113g (34%)

Weight this morning: 134.6 (One week ago: 134.2)
Calories burned in exercise today: 260

Had a pretty good day at the gym. I bought a Rock Star energy drink (my fave brand) and I think that helped. But also it was just an overall good gym day. Some days are bad and some are good; today was good. :) I was barely able to eek out one pull-up at a 40 lb. counterbalance. I haven't been able to do that since last Thursday, though I try every time I go in.

I'm back into the NutriSystem forum. I got a call from NS today and they said I was back in, so I pulled up the forum real fast and sure enough, I'm in. I'm still locked out of the fitness forums/clubs, however, and told them that.

Brad is taking tomorrow off, so we'll get an early jump on our hike. We're going up the Orchard Trail to the West Ridge Trail, then down the Chown Trail, but instead of hiking all the way over to and down the Mill Trail we're going to turn off at that small trail we didn't take before (don't know the name).

Business meeting at church this Saturday. I'm the clerk and still rushing around trying to get the paperwork together, typed, printed, and filed. After that Brad and I will make beanless, riceless burritos. Yum! We're not going out to dinner this week; I'm taking the money I would spend on dinner and setting it aside toward a nice binge the day I get back from vacation on August 5.

Speaking of money, today was payday so I paid another $45 toward my NutriSystem food, but still owe about $500. *sigh* I'll get it paid off; it will just take time. And I still owe my Mom the $99 she lent me for the personal training.

More NutriSystem food reviews:
Orange Beef with Noodles dinner - I've heard lots of bad things about this dinner, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I give it a thumbs down. It's okay, but the sweet taste turns me off. 250 calories, 6g fat, 30g net carbs (after subtracting 1g fiber), and 18g protein.

Macaroni with Cheese and Beef dinner - This was really yummy, but what do you expect from carbs? Carbs are yummy and have made America fat. I have five of these that were given to me free, so I am eating them, but they are too carby for my liking. 250 calories, 7g fat, 29g net carbs (after subtracting 4g fiber), and 14g protein.

Three Cheese Pasta with Chicken dinner - Considering the huge number of carbs in this I was not impressed. Maybe it's because of the expiration date - it was grainy and stale and had very little chicken. Thankfully there was only one. 270 calories, 6g fat, 30g net carbs (after subtracting 3g fiber), and 20g protein.

See you all on Sunday with my weigh-in numbers!

With the higher carb (and therefore higher calorie) food arriving yesterday, my calories are running well over 1400, so I figured I better step up the exercise. Today was grocery day, but I did hop on my exercise bike at home for 30 minutes, then did my usual walk to work from the BART station. That should help offset the higher calorie number.

Came across an interesting, but sad, article on obesity today. Why are Americans doing this to themselves? This is where our obsession with carbs - a totally unnecessary macronutrient - has gotten us:

Study predicts 75 percent overweight in U.S. by 2015

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - If people keep gaining weight at the current rate, fat will be the norm by 2015, with 75 percent of U.S. adults overweight and 41 percent obese, U.S. researchers predicted on Wednesday.

Studies show that 66 percent of U.S. adults were overweight or obese in 2003 and 2004. An alarming 80 percent of black women aged 40 or over are overweight and 50 percent are obese.

Living in a poor area I see this around me everyday. People eat up the carbs because they are cheap, and they pay the price in their health and appearance. Ditch the carbs and eat up on the protein and fat your body really needs!

The free food that was sent to me arrived today. A woman had a bunch of food that was about to expire and asked if I would take it - just pay shipping. I said fine. The shipping came to about $11 or $12. Everything is dinners except for two breakfast eggs. I'll need my carb blockers for the next several days as I eat this food. Oh well, maybe the extra carbs will shock my body into losing some weight (yeah, right). Look for more food reviews with links to photos coming soon. Some of this food is stuff I have never tried before.

Made it to the gym today. Pretty normal in terms of energy and 10 times better than Sunday.

Crap. I'm gaining. Not only am I above my weight yesterday (very rare for a Monday), but I'm a pound and a half above last week at this time. Last week I spent six days at or below goal; I won't make that goal this week. :(

I knew I was dehydrated yesterday. If I hadn't been I would have shown a gain. Why is my body so intent on holding on to so much fat?

It looks like my lowest weigh-in weight ever was 137.6. So that's the weight to beat. I came very close to 137 on Atkins, but never quite made it.

Yesterday I forgot to mention a minor victory. I made another goal I set for myself - I came in under 140 on a nighttime weigh-in on Thursday night with a weight of 139.2. :) Here's my goals again, with the new one made Thursday crossed off now. :)

1. hit 137 on any day (made Thursday, May 17!)
2. be under 140 at a nighttime weigh-in (made Thursday, July 12!)
3. hit 137 on a Sunday
4. hit 134 four days in a week

In that same post, I mentioned about the Schmap Seattle Guide. Well, my photo was chosen for inclusion as part of a set about the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train. Go here to see the photo and the rest of the photos chosen for the dinner train set.

Wow! I lost a pound! I am totally thrilled! Of course, I did have salad at dinner last night (seafood Cobb salad), so that could be part of it. I also feel dehydrated today, even though I drank plenty of water yesterday.

Ok, settle in. This was an especially busy weekend.

Friday was pretty normal. Brad and I went walking. The hike would have been shorter (too short) but we took a wrong turn and that made the hike much longer. Then we had dinner and drinks at my apartment. I missed low-carb pina coladas so I made him a mojito and I had a couple glasses of pina coladas.

Saturday I was supposed to meet up with my sister, but she kept pushing back the time. First she said she was leaving the peninsula at 3, then 4, then 5. I had a few glasses of wine while I waited for the call. I didn't feel I could face the whole thing sober.

It was 6 or so by the time I finally met up with her and Renato and one of their friends at the BART station. Then we got Eleanor and the five of us went out to dinner. April said they were paying, so I got a seafood Cobb salad and diet Coke, having already had my alcohol quota for the day. Then back to Ellie's house to hang out. I got home way too late.

Got woken up this morning by the collection agency at 8:30. This time it was a $25 returned check fee on the bounced check by the person impersonating me. I explained that I already faxed the needed info. to Telecheck that the original check was fraudulent. Even though the girl woke me up I had the presence of mind to ask about how to get the fraudulent bank account closed and she gave me a number to call.

I went to the gym, but had no strength or energy. My get up and go got up and went. I couldn't even do a single pull-up with either a 40 OR 50 pound offset. Hopefully Tuesday will be better. I think I will turn off the phone, take a Benedryl, and try to sleep in tomorrow.

Here's the photos taken of sis, Renato, Eleanor, and I yesterday. Click any of them to enlarge.

Worked out today. Pretty normal otherwise. Nothing much to report. My weight is still up from a week ago. I need to buckle down and just plain eat less.

I did have a minor gym victory today. My trainer said that if I could only do one rep of something (such as one push-up on a ball) to do the one, then walk away and forget about it until next time. Well, I have applied that to the weight-assisted chin-up (photo). I would really like to be able to do a chin-up at some point (unassisted), but I am not strong enough yet. I was able to do one rep at 50 pounds, but dropping the weight offset to 40 was elusive.

Until today.

Today, my first order of business was the weight assisted chin-up, set it to 40 pounds, and proceeded to barely eek out one rep! :) Yay! I've been trying for a couple weeks, but this was my first time succeeding.

Calories eaten yesterday: 1336
Fat: 35g (25%)
Carbs: 89g (28%)
Protein: 146g (46%)

Weight this morning: 135 (One week ago: 134.4)
Calories burned in exercise today: 87

Crap. I gained over last week. I know why. Some "kind soul" (idiot) brought nuts to work yesterday. I found no less than three cans of nuts sitting around the building without even looking. Two cans of peanuts (my favorite!) and one can of mixed nuts. I couldn't help myself. I probably ate 100-200 extra calories in nuts alone yesterday. :( I have to stop eating these if I want to lose weight.

I am the latest victim of the "upgrades" to the NutriSystem site. I cannot get into the forum' it gives me an "invalid username or password" error. I e-mailed a couple of addresses and got no response. I called and a nice lady tried to help me, but in the end she had to admit that my information was correct and the Website just wasn't working. She gave me the tech support e-mail address. I e-mailed them and got a canned response saying it would take them three business day to get back to me! *sigh* I am really hating this. First I can't get into my clubs, and now I can't get into the forum, either. I need the support - and the distraction.

Speaking of NutriSystem, I currently owe $535, and my $153 "Maintenance" order hasn't even showed up yet. *double sigh* It will take me forever to pay this off.

I finally found something in the grocery store to approximate the NS hot dogs. The NS hot dogs are 70 calories a piece with only 5g protein. I found meatless veggie dogs that have only 45 calories and 8g protein. They were on sale so I bought four packages and stuck them in the freezer. Too bad I didn't find these before. Safeway doesn't carry fat-free real meat hot dogs.

To address the comments on the last post, yes, I do sometimes take diet pills. As "Arthur of Old" said, I don't rely on them, but I sometimes need a little kick start.

The hunger is getting to me. I have got to stay focused if I'm going to lose weight. Damn my medication! Why can't I be like so many other people on the plan and not be hungry? :(

I took a photo my my old college ID, from the spring semester of 1995, which would have made me about 24. It's just a head shot, but you can tell how overweight I already was from the round face. Click for a larger image.

Week 19, Day 3

Calories eaten yesterday: 1303
Fat: 53g (38%)
Carbs: 88g (28%)
Protein: 103g (33%)

Weight this morning: 135.8 (One week ago: 136)
Calories burned in exercise today: 261

I'm an idiot. Go ahead. Razz me. I got the NanoSlim pills home and took a closer look at the booklet inside. The pill is supposed to work by balancing blood sugar. While that might work for some people, low-carbing for the past three years and undone any problem I did have. Of course I'd already opened one blister pack so I couldn't return it to the store. Oh well. I'll take them, though I am less hopeful they will do any good. I took the first pill this morning.

I was feeling down about this so I stopped at WalMart and did something I can't afford - I bought another bottle of diet pills, this time Zantrex-3. It's basically a stimulant. I'll take it after the NanoSlim since if I take both and lose weight I won't know which helped. I am regretting not buying the Lean System 7 at GNC on Monday. I wouldn't have felt the need for the NanoSlim and Zantrex-3 then.

Tried something different at the gym today. Had my morning coffee, and then took extra coffee to the gym with me and drank it before my workout. It did seem to clear my mind and help me focus on the exercises, so I guess it worked. :)

Week 19, Day 2

Calories eaten yesterday: 1234
Fat: 37g (28%)
Carbs: 78g (26%)
Protein: 131g (45%)

Weight this morning: 137 (One week ago: 137.4)
Calories burned in exercise today: 99

Barely eeked in at 137 even today. The scale kept jumping around, but settling at 137.0 twice, so that's the weight I'm going with. That means if I'm really good this week I might see six days at or below goal, and the last step before seven days at goal is six! :)

Ran into the City today. Got the property check, deposited it, and bought BCAA powder at GNC. I also got some Carb Intercept pills because a lady on the NS forums said she would give me a bunch of food that's about to expire (just pay shipping), and some of it is really carby. hey, it's free food! Who am I to turn that down? The pills can't hurt and might help.

I walked to work from BART, stopped at WalMart, and bought more EAS Carb Control shakes, and yes, I caved and bought some diet pills. I need a little extra oomph since I am not losing. This time I decided to try NanoSlim. I'll let you know if I think it did any good.

My NS eggs came today. They changed the formula and I'm not really happy. The old eggs (plain) had 80 calories. The new plain eggs have 120 calories. For 120 I could have gotten the ones with cheese or veggie crumbles! :-p

Protein: 101g (31%)
Weight Friday morning: 132.2 (One week before: 133.8)
Calories burned in exercise Friday: 239

A new low! I've never seen a number this low! :) My previous low was 133.8 a week ago Friday.

Weight Saturday morning: 134.4 (One week before: 135.8)
Calories burned in exercise Saturday: 0

Calories burned in exercise today: 263

Well, after seeing a new low this week and all the water I drank yesterday, I really thought I'd see a bigger loss today. Oh well. Que sera sera. Perhaps next week. At least I'm still under 140 so I think I will leave the "Race to the 130s" thread on the NutriSystem boards and go over to the "Race to Goal" thread.

Speaking of the NS forums, they did some work and when I logged on Friday morning I found my subscriptions gone, my signature gone, and my options reset. I had to rebuild everything from scratch, and I am still working on finding all the threads I've posted in to resubscribe. I am NOT happy. And they still don't have the size of the forum fixed, and don't seem interested in doing so. They just tell people to fix their screen resolution, but if I do that, everything is too small to read. NS doesn't care. I have never seen a more poorly designed site or a poorly executed change. :-p

I spent the whole weekend tired. I didn't get enough sleep Friday or Saturday. Friday Brad and I had a lot of errands to run before we could walk. The soda at Safeway had a different sale going than the awesome one on Wednesday so I bought just three cases of Diet Coke. Also picked up ZMA and more chocolate soy milk at the health food store. Got gloves and blue shampoo from the beauty store. Checked GNC for BCAA powder, but they only had the pills. They said their Gold Card discount runs until the 10th this month, so I'll run into the City tomorrow and see if I can find the powder there. I know at least one of the GNC stores in the City should carry it.

After all this Brad and I went walking. We walked along the shore since Southshore Mall is right there. I didn't feel like driving all the way out to where we were planning on hiking since there was a nice walking trail so close.

Saturday I nearly fell asleep during Sabbath School and napped through the potluck lunch. Pretty much laid in bed the rest of the day. Brad and I watched DVD called Dating Fossils and Rocks about fossils and the inaccuracy of the dating methods used.

Cancelling NutriSystem

Calories eaten yesterday: 1319

Protein: 126g (40%)

Weight this morning: 134 (One week ago: 134.6)
Calories burned in exercise today: 259

Well, I took a big step with NutriSystem today. I ordered the "Maintenance" package of just the dinners and snacks ($153 after the 15% discount), then cancelled my auto-delivery. So that will be my last order and then I am on my own! Yike.

Learned something new about NutriSystem today. This is straight from the dietitian:

On the women's plan you are already having approx 180 grams of carbs (the men get 215 grams)...

180g! Good grief! I have been eating about 80-100g a day, and that's quite high enough for me.

Pretty normal day today. Went to the gym, came to work. Also bought the diet pills I'll need when I leave for vacation in 3 weeks - Hoodia and Dexatrim Max 2-0 to control my appetite so I don't overeat.

Tomorrow I need to get muscle supplements - BCAAs and ZMA. My arms are starting to get really toned - you can see the muscle even when the muscles are at rest! I also need to get diet soda from Safeway; they have a "buy two, get three free" sale. I need milk for the communion bread, too. After than Brad and I will go walking and then make mojitos.

Week 18, Day 4 (Independence Day)

Weight this morning: 134.4 (One week ago: 135.6)
Calories burned in exercise today: 112

It's July 4th and a huge holiday here in the U.S. - the day of our Independence from England. It's America's 231st birthday this year. :) Most people get the day off, so I hope you are enjoying it. I am working like always, and did my regular weekly grocery run today, albeit very small due to money being so tight.

Each day I think about how I'm not losing weight, or losing it very slowly. I had a reality check yesterday. Someone on the NutriSystem forums posted a thread asking how much weight you lost in June. I checked my pocket calendar, did the math, and discovered that I lost 3.2 lbs. in June! That's not bad at all and I am just so thrilled with that. I'm not doing nearly as bad as I thought. Dare I think that I could make goal by the time I leave for Conference at the end of this month?

Week 18, Day 3, and my goals

Calories eaten yesterday: 1196

Protein: 113g (39%)

Weight this morning: 136 (One week ago: 137)
Calories burned in exercise today: 246

Back to at or below goal weight. I wish I could break this be-at-goal-five-days-a-week thing and see six and then all seven days at or below goal. *sigh* My body loses so slow.

Had another weight training NSV today! A guy watched me while I was doing the dumbbell bench press on an exercise ball using 20 lb. weights in each hand. He started counting down to the end of the set and I corrected him and said I had five more reps left so he counted down from there. I put the dumbbells down and said that was my last set. He said he remembered me when I first started coming and that I'd really improved. I love it when someone I don't even know notices my hard work.

Chatting with my boss Jon today we got onto the topic of earplugs to block out noises. He said he liked the ones he uses and washed off the pair he wears so I could try them on. I did and they fit fine and worked well. I went to give them back and he asked me how I liked them and I said I did. He said, "They're yours." Sweet!

Got a message on Flickr about a photo I took while there on vacation last Thanksgiving. This is the photo. Click to enlarge.

Finally, I want to list some of my current weight goals that I am striving toward. My goal weight is 137.
1. hit 137 on any day (made Thursday, May 17!)
2. be under 140 at a nighttime weigh-in
3. hit 137 on a Sunday
4. hit 134 or less four days in a week

Weight this morning: 137.4 (One week ago: 138.4)
Calories burned in exercise today: 93

I forgot to record this yesterday. Thursday night while Lisa was driving me to the BART station after work she called me "skinny" not once but three times! Wow! I'll take the compliment. :) She said, "You're skinny." :)

I also forgot to mention that this blog now has over 30,000 views! :) If you scroll way down to the bottom of the page you will see my site meter with the current number of hits on it.

Not much going on today. Ran into the City. No money waiting for me in either my home mailbox or my P.O. box. Totally broke.

I'm also almost out of vitamins and Lupe downstairs still doesn't have the ones I take. I'm going to run out in just a few days and I told her I needed them before she left for the conference! Good grief.

I'm starving hungry and trying to fight the pangs. If I give in I won't lose weight. I already ate my Atkins bar snack and it's a while until lunch yet.

I've gotten behind on posting photos. So here's some thumbnails. Click to enlarge them.

One last NutriSystem food review:

Cranberry Orange Pastry breakfast - I used it as a snack since it's so small and only 100 calories. This was okay, but barely. A little too sweet, and cranberry and orange are not my favorite things (especially orange). I'll take a pass on ordering this again. I only bought one to try it.

Back into the 130s for an official weigh-in! Yay! :) 0.8 down from last week, but no weight lost over two weeks. Oh well. I'll just keep plugging along.

The peanut butter has got to go. It is a huge sabotage for me on Saturdays. I won't buy more when the current jar is gone. I have one more jar, but I am saving that for my vacation the end of this month.

I went to the gym today and then came to work. The batteries on my food scale died this morning so I stopped at WalMart to pick up a couple more batteries. It takes those lithium ones that can be hard to find. I used the old Weight Watchers analog scale to weigh out my cereal.

Brad and I hiked up to the West Ridge Trail on Friday. 1 hour 45 minutes. Next week I hope to explore more trails along the West Ridge.

Saturday morning I woke up at 2 a.m. First, I was very hungry and wasn't able to get back to sleep until I'd eaten quite a bit. That hasn't happened in quite a while. I attribute it to my abysmally low protein amount on Friday (65g). I had a couple peanut butter sandwiches (open faced of course) and an Atkins meal bar before I could fall back to sleep.

Second, one of the neighbors was having mad passionate sex and I could hear their cries and breathing through the walls - at 2 a.m.! They need to have a little more respect! Sheesh.

Plan for this week: run into the City tomorrow to check my mail, workout Tuesday, buy groceries Wednesday, and workout again on Thursday.
