Saturated fat - it is as bad as we're told?

Well no. Here's the scoop from About.com's Weight Loss forum.

(Y)ou want to be sure not to combine saturated fat with starchy carbs. The starches combine with the saturated fat in such a way that makes it adhere to the artery walls. Saturated fat in the absence of starchy carbs does not do this.

It is as I have always said - you can have one or the other, but not both. Both fat and carbs together will clog your arteries and kill you. This is, incidentally, part of why Atkins failed for Jody Gorran - he was eating full fat, full sugar cheesecake several times a week in addition to a high fat diet. That's not what I'd call "livin' la vida low carb"!

There's a book out that is just excellent. It's called "Know Your Fats." Once you finish reading it you will have a whole new outlook on saturated fats.

Thanks for your post! Here's the link to the book. I once took a quick glace at my saturated fat intake. It's about 15-20% of my calories on any given day. Total fat is about 45% of daily calories.

I truly believe the only bad fat is man made trans-fat. All other fats are gifts from God for our use and health.
