Fruit and the Atkins Diet

Many people claim that people on Atkins don't eat fruit. Wikipedia defines fruit this way:
In botany, a fruit is the ripened ovary - together with seeds - of a flowering plant. In many species, the fruit incorporates the ripened ovary and surrounding tissues. Fruits are the means by which flowering plants disseminate seeds.

Here's a list of fruits that people on Atkins can eat that most people never consider because they think they are vegetables.

avocado
zucchini
tomato
eggplant
cucumber
squash
pumpkin
olives
red, green, orange and yellow peppers

Most, if not all, of these can be eaten right from day 1 of the diet.

So the next time someone tells you that people on Atkins don't eat any fruit, tell them you eat plenty. Something does not have to be sweet to be a fruit.
