Bay To Breakers, follow-up

me at Bay To BreakersAs you all know by now, I ran the Bay To Breakers race yesterday, in a new record time, shaving about 7 minutes off my previous best.

I tried to get ahold of a copy of the Examiner, but none were to be found, even though I was in San Francisco this morning. I pulled the paper up online, but there were two missing pages and the missing pages had, I suspect, the first 10,000 finishers listed. If anyone knows where I can get the list of names, please let me know because I really want it!

The winner was, of course, Kenyan, for the 16th year in a row. Looking through the San Francisco Chronicle I found that the winner was Gilbert Okari, who came in at 34:20. He overtook the leading woman, Tetyana Hladyr at the Great Highway, even though the elite women were given a 4 minute 40 second head start. Taking the head start into account, her time was 39:09.

The top four finishers were Kenyan. Fifth and sixth place went to Americans, followed by two more Kenyans, followed by two Americans.

There were 62,000 runners this year - 40,000 registered runners and 22,000 who crashed the party. Frankly, I don't understand why anyone would crash the party when they can be an official part of it for a nominal $33 registration fee. There were no serious injuries - just the usual cuts and bruises.

As for me...well I'm hecka sore. I didn't walk the last leg to work today. Every muscle in my body aches. The worst are my thighs and shins, which got the brunt of yesterday's "workout." I don't know if I will walk tomorrow. I'll see how I feel in the morning. Right now, walking is very painful.

How did I do officially? I pulled up the official Bay To Breakers site and lo and behold, results are already up. You can go to this page and plug in my runner number (2653) and my results will come up. It will give you my official time and place. My official time is 1:31:11 and I placed 7553! Oh my goodness, I am in the top 10,000! Now I really want that copy of the Examiner because my name will be in it!!!

Congrats on making the top 10,000. Next year, I'm going to show up on time so I can do so as well. ;-)
