I'm planning on stopping at the Paws & Claws pet store tomorrow. Supposedly they carry Innova cat food. It has no corn, and substitutes in grains instead. I buy a top "big" brand of cat food right now - Eukanuba - but it has corn.
Lack of corn in itself wouldn't make me buy it. What makes Innova special is a product called Innova Evo, which is high protein (50%), moderate fat (22%), and low carb (7%). It's the lowest in carbs of any cat food, and I think, closer to their diet in the wild. It has no corn OR grains. The only downside it there is no diet kind. With Abby's weight issues I like to feed them both diet food.
Compare this with Eukanuba Weight Control, which is 30% protein, 31% fat, and a whopping 39% carbohydrates. However, it's lower in overall calories. (In all fairness, their non-diet kinds are about 25% carbohydrates.)
I don't know if my cats will eat the Innova, but they haven't been picky in the past, so I'll buy a small bag (if the pet store has it) and try it out.

What about yogurt? Protein and calcium. Would that be an acceptable substitute? :)

I don't think that would be a good idea for the cats, but their favorite human likes it and eats it every day. :)
